Im in the process of researching an upcomming project of mine. It is a Bugler of the 68th Durham Light Infantry at the battle of Inkerman 1854.

What I am looking for is the plate on the sword belt and what's on it. It looks like a brass plate square buckle with some sort of insignia on it, but I havent found whats on the plate.

Also, did the Bugler coat have 'tails' on the back, or were they cut at the waist like the front?

Any help much appreciated!

Here`s a drummer from the 19th foot should be same coat and its more than likely the device below which is on the plate. the sword should be a drummer roman style sword.

Hi Anders,
This is not my cup of tea, I don't know uniforms of Crimean War, but among my books there is something of many periods. From Osprey here is your bugler of Durham 68th Light Infantry, the regiment which fought at Inkerman without the coats. I see some tails and turnbacks. I agree with Evofive, this is the device of the regiment, that could be on the shako and on the belt. You can find it on various sites of the regiment in the Web
Hope it is useful
Best regards
M
