Inspirational stuff..........

I expect many of us know this award winning piece- It's called
'Miracle at Empel' sculpted by Maurizio Bruno and painted by
Danilo Cartacci (a match surely made in Heaven). After all, it's
been around for a while What may not be widely known is that
it was inspired by a painting by the Spanish hyper-realist artst
Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau.

Multi-figure tableaux are often a feature today with more of us
attempting them. For those gripped by such ambitious projects
this artist's work wll provide all the inspiration a modeller could
need. He descibes himself as 'a painter of battles' and his work
features historical action from the Renaissance to the Iraq war.
It's a truly superb portfolio....here are just a couple.You might
wish to Google images for more of his stuff to later deluge
your favourite sculptor with suggestions.

Besides excellent art, what is the message here...??

My intention, Wayne, was to show that two of our hobby's celebrated
luminaries - Marizio Bruno and Danilo Cartacci - were inspired to
create a sublime - and in itself inspirational - vignette by the work of
Augusto Ferrer-Dalmaua.

Also we've recently been hearing from a number of figure producers
of the dilemmas they face in choosing subjects, scales, and so forth,
and generally trying to please everybody at the same time. Perhaps
as customers we could develop a closer connection with them and
share helpful ideas.....who knows ? Of course, Wayne, everything
would depend on our ability to remain our usual reasonable, patient
and well mannered selves......eh?

I have the Tercios at Rocroi picture as my screen saver/background. Every time I wind up the elastic on the laptop, I'm inspired by the artistry. I've done quite a number of those figures as a result. Ferrer-Dalmau's book , although in Spanish, is well worth a glance.
Mike, I like your ideas.....Maurizio Bruno's current figures are often inspired by his myriad fans, and they are masterful.

Kev....artists have always been essential to our hobby haven't they ?
Usually they were a source of uniform details - dear old Lilian
and Fred Funken in he early days, the Eugene Leliepvre colour
plates supplied by Historex, then the more serious painters
like Eugène Bucquoy, Lucien Rousselot, Pierre Benigni, and
Edouard Detaille. By then they also became an inspiration for
an individual figure's pose or a group composition as well as
the appropriate colours......plus ca change...eh?
