I have a soft spot for the LIR I was a Piper in there Pipe Band in the late 60s 70s.

Hi Mick the Irish Regiments of the British army have fascinated me for many years, given the unrest throughout the history of Ireland what motivated Irish men to join the army and fight for the Crown, however they did and generated a rich military history that continues in areas of conflict today, I am pleased that you have taken this idea forward and although I usually concentrate on Ancient and Medieval subjects I will watch your project with great interest. Perhaps somewhere down the line you may consider extending the period and commission a WW1 36th Ulster Division bust.

Thanks for looking in. I think Hunger and desperation was the prime factor for Irish men to join the British Army and not forgetting the HEIC prior to 1881.
The way they were treated by the British Gov after WW1 IMO was despicable. Although inevitable that some were disbanded in 1922, it would have been nice if they amalgamated them into the remaining regiments.
Maybe we should look at the remaining Scottish Regiments as the may not be on the Army list much longer???
