This is stunningly superb. It is however worth rembering that two beaches were American, two were British and one was Canadian. The latter two seem to get forgotten, mainly because of the b***s-up on Omaha.

Yes Mike, but as always, people do seem to gravitate to to those b***ls ups as you put it. Custer at the Greasy Grass, Charge of the light brigade, Isandlwana, the Alamo to name a few events that seem to be celebrated more than the great successes. I think it's more to do with honoring the tragic loss of life, which should be considered a good and worthwhile motive.
