A Brazen Lie!
On June 15, 1961, one of history's boldest lies was told:
On that day, during an international press conference in (East) Berlin, the GDR head of state, Walter Ulbricht, answered a question from a Western correspondent as to whether the GDR was planning measures to block West Berlin in view of the massive flight of its citizens:
"Nobody has the intention to build a wall!"
At this time, the planning for the construction of the Wall - under Erich Honecker - was already in full swing.
When the Wall is actually built two months later...
... West Berlin citizens put up large posters with Ulbricht's original answer of June 15 in impotent rage...:
