Hi Malc well just think if we had made it what would we be doing, Shane you had to change the name. But I think those boys did very well with it . Got to see Genesis 5 times over the years great live band no doubt.

Nigel well I think most Teens wanted to be in a band we sent a tape to John peel bless him but never go anywhere. Ho well still have the memory great times.

Agree - I think for many of us that's when making models started to take a back seat! Just think, if we'd become massive rock stars we probably wouldn't be hanging round here talking about models...... I guess we might be dating them instead!

John Peel - so many happy memories listening to his show. He played some great music and championed a lot of bands.

Hi Nigel yes John was great I used to listen to Alan Fluff Freeman Saturday afternoon.got into some great bands through the pair of them. That an my mates listening to different band that we had got at the record shops in Leeds we had some great ones sadly gone now. Seen and Heard was a great store then Virgin and HMV.

Old gray whistle test was my go to Programe for the more off beat stuff. Bob Harris was the man. Picked up so meany great band watching that. Evan Top of the Pops had some good ones now and then

Terry and Ian both have massive record collections Terry has over 3,000 CDs. Ian has well over 5,000 CDs so lots to borrow and listen to from them me I have about 1,500 so baby of the bunch only sad thing is Ian has every Barry manilow Album sad very sad and he’s a massive Zep Fan. Still it takes all kinds. When were in the workshop we leave when he puts Barry on , a man can only take so much

There are some lovely anecdotes and references on here.

NigelR: it's an opinion often-voiced. Those early albums are a delight, and really atmospheric. I love Trespass, and always listen to it when it snows (first played it during a blizzard), so after today's winter walk in the Dales, it'll get an airing.
First time I saw the band was 2 Oct 1982 at the Womad benefit reunion. A dream come true at 13 yrs old.

I'm in the Phil Collins camp, but love Gabriel's solo work too (saw him 7 times...)

Love the Trespass album with Anthony Philips on guitar. The songs are very atmospheric indeed. Good album just to sit and listen to with a nice

Trespass, Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot are my holy trinity of Genesis albums. I grew up with those. My older brother was a bit of a folkie and had bought Trespass when it came out, then I bought Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot which both blew me away. They were one of the first bands I saw live (back in 1973 when I was 15) and they created an indelible memory on me. This concert was recorded on the tour I saw and it's pretty much how I remember them:
(I assume you've seen it, but if you haven't you must watch it).

I think the music you listen to in your formative years is what makes the biggest impression on you. So when Gabriel left that was the end of Genesis for me, but if you have never seen the original incarnation, I can fully understand why you like the Collins (and later) era Genesis. Plus of course by the mid-70s I was starting to turn punk, so I stopped listening to all that prog stuff....!

The Six of the Best gig was the original line-up (Steve H appeared for the encores). I remember the goosebumps, and incessant rain.
Yes I have that footage on dvd and love it.
Re vocalists: my introduction to the band was Duke, and I confess that I prefer Phil’s versions of the earlier material.
Ahem… no offence intended.
Punk bands: I saw Souixsie and the Banshees, Ian Dury and a few local groups whilst a student (remember Elastica?).
Never saw the Pistols but love Never Mind the Bollocks - what a fantastic album.

Tommy Vance and the Friday Rock Show late night on Radio 1 I think, driving home from my soon to be wife’s house in late 70’s. Followed by lard on toast when I got home …. Mmmmm . Can you still get lard in those waxed paper cones from the butchers ?..

As a kid, growing up in Leicestershire, we were in the area of Britain with the worst fish and chips. Every time we visited my grandparents in Yorkshire, we'd get fish and chips from a local chippy. They were fried in beef dripping and tasted like paradise.
I now live reasonably close to that village in W Yorks. And all the chippies here use bloody vegetable oil.
The only place I know you can get beef dripping fish and chips is the Black Country Museum.
Back in the bloody Midlands.
