Unlucky David, I'd like to go back to Austerlitz. Often described as the perfect strategy. Plus, seeing all the uniforms would have been breathtaking. Only going if I take my camera.

I don't think I could pick a day, I'd rather have 30 minutes in a load of periods so I could see Nelsons fleet at Trafalgar, some of the Cavalry charges at Waterloo, watch a Roman legion in the field or see how the area around my home changed over the last 2000 years.

That said, Victoria's Jubilee parade in London would have been a sight to behold!

Tumbleweed......
Oh well, can't win 'em all.
I'll get me coat.

Didn't respond because I couldn't settle on anything (I assume revisiting personal history or investing in that newly formed company called "Google" is out of the question).
Possibly some legendary, yet ill-documented battle. Here that would be Morgarten. The previously suggested Sekigahara and witnessing the charge of the Red Devils would also be nice. Or just taking a stroll in Belle Époque Paris...simply can't decide.

Wrong Genesis choice I am afraid ;):) You needed to choose this one:

Genesis at their incomparable best. And I was there! (well at the Brighton show at least.....)

I have booked to go and see the Musical Box, a Genesis tribute band, who are recreating the 73 tour with period approriate instruments and costumes. Although I think I might regret it, seeing a middle aged chunky chap pretending to be a young Peter Gabriel might not recreate the magic of the actual event..... :D

My first ever gig was Six of the Best, when Peter came back for a WOMAD benefit concert.
I love the music from that period - especially Trespass. But I think they all got better after '75. And Duke is my absolute favourite album, by anyone.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one!;) But I think the reality is that you always like the music best that is around when you are really getting into music. Genesis of the Nursery Cryme/Foxtrot era were quite unique, and their stage show was unlike anything else at the time, which was why it made such an impression on me, especially as it was only about the third live gig I had been to (IIRC King Crimson and Wishbone Ash were the first two....). So I can understand you prefer the later stuff if you came to them later in their career.

An almost impossible question to answer. If you put a gun to my head and I had to pick just one day....

VE day celebrations in London. I think the sheer sense of relief on its own must've been unreal.

Either there or Bolton, where I'm given to understand the steps in front of Bolton Town Hall resembled a Roman orgy...(y)
