My new 30mm project.
The scene is based on Gustaf Cederstrom's painting of the same name. Cederstom admitted it is not an historically accurate depiction so if he wasn't worried neither am I.

There are in fact two versions of the painting both by the same artist and this wikipedia article is quite interesting. Obviously us non Swedish speakers will need the aid of a translator.

For my flat version I have decided to omit some of the figures in the set to make a more compact version which after many dry runs placing the figures looks much better.

The base and the layout of the figures.

Nice to see you made it back safe Roger and you're not wasting much time getting back to the bench :)

Looks interesting, I'll be following your progress :)

Roger. Chair, beer and chips for us looking for your painting. Not for you ;) Hurry, only four weeks left until back to sea

So you should be, they're looking great.
I like the simple mix, sometimes I feel that some painters over elaborate their flesh mixes to no particular benefit.
Cheers
Derek

Thanks very much Derek. As far as I'm concerned keeping the mixes simple has the advantage of keeping everything uniform and easier to remember.

Ooooh. I really like this. It's going to be a most impressive scene.
Nice progress on the faces.

Cederstrom was pretty accurate regarding details and studied the real deal such as weapons, uniforms and other equipment, But he was not that faithful regarding historical correctness and mixed and matched stuff from different eras and periods. He made some great paintings, all of them very romaticized and made in a era of awakening nationalism and not to be taken for accurate depiction of an historical event.
However they are still excellent subjects for making dioramas (Mike blank has been inspired by a couple) and I think they make beautiful flats, especially in your gifted hands. I really will enjoy this.
Now, were did i put those crisps

Regards /Lars
