This is my Madison Home Guard, Co. d., 3rd Georgia Vol Infantry. 75mm by Scale75, SKR-005 Keith Rocco series, 3rd Georgia. I changed the kepi to an early war Georgia state issued kepi (the kit kepi reminded me too much of a Federal bummer), I added a Georgia state PE buckle and some fringe to the scarf. All in acrylics and even though the figure looks good in butternut and wanted to try an early war steel grey.
Thanks to Venko (Weapons Design for Figures – 3D Forum) who scaled up his 1861 Springfield to match the kit supplied item which I painted as a Richmond-made Springfield.
Keith Rocco, in his painting from which this figure was taken, depicted Private Columbus, Co. D., 3rd Georgia Vol. Inf. Taylor who was killed on July 1, 1862 at the Battle of Malvern Hill. I couldn’t resist the Redbone Coon Hound even if it does crowd the base. They were named for one of the early breeders, Peter Redbone, rather than their color. The breed is thought to have originated in Georga in the early 1840’s.
A fun figure to paint, nicely cast, simple scheme. I did think the facial features were a little soft but all-in-all a nice addition to anyone’s ACW collection.
