Hi guys and gals,
I'm working on a WWII bust of a US GI wearing the typical khaki green jacket. This is what I got using Naples Yellow mixed with Raw Umber - Green shade.

I was wondering what you think of the results. Does this look acceptable for the color I'm going for?
Please note that there is only the wet-on-wet shading and highlighting so far. Secondary shading and highlighting have yet to be applied.
Thanks in advance.
Craig :)
PS: Looking at the photo on this computer screen, it looks a little more green in person

Craig,
I should feel very comfortable with this. Maybe, just maybe a little tip of the brush green in the mix. Just to made it look like a greenish khaki.
But as you mentioned, that it looks in live a little greener, it is hard to tell from the screen.

Hi Marc,
The first coat was actually lighter. I did a second coat with more of the Raw Umber - Green Shade to darken it a bit.
I took the photo and quickly uploaded it before work this morning. It looked okay at home but now it looks too light. I may try completely covering it with a coat of the same Raw Umber, let it sit a few minutes and them wipe it off. Just to stain it. I've had good results using that trick in the past. And if it doesn't work, not much effort lost if I strip it.

Tony, yes that's Clint from Kelly's Heroes. The bust is sculpted by jacek Spychalski and is produced by Mirage. It comes with him holding a Thompson machine gun but I opted to remove it and cut the right arm to balance the piece.
What I'm planning is to mount this bust and the Oddball bust on a single base and I thought the Thompson threw it out of balance.
Thanks guys,
Craig

Craig - I think this looks pretty close to the faded color that I recall from the movie. You could probably do a web search for screen shots from the movie, too (if you have not already done so :)

Keith

Hey Keith,
I recently bought a DVD recorder for my TV. Got the movie and did a few screen shots just like you're talking about. I the movie it looks a lot greener but I really wasn't sure if it was the correct color or not. I think mine looks just more faded than the one in the movie. I just knew that I didn't want it to be a tan khaki.
Thanks,
Craig :)

Craig, looking at the figure's helmut I'd dread having to paint all sides of that netting. Have you given any thought about sanding it smooth and replacing it with a camo net that you can find for military modeling? I think it'd add a little dimension. Annnnd, you'd be able to maybe put a lucky charm of sorts under it for added character.

As always, I hope this note has found you in good health,

John (Aka EasyOff)

Hi John,
Up until now, I hadn't thought about how I'll paint that netting
I don't fancy the idea of sanding it off though. I think my approach will be to paint the helmet color and let it dry. then try painting it with the old stand by dry brushing technique. Just doing it with oils. I've done this on armor models and the oils really lend themselves to it nicely. I'll let you know how it goes.
So, are you going to MFCA next month? Hope to see you there :)

Craig,
I have permission to go from the wife... I just asked her yesterday, if there's still room in the van that's going down from our club I may go. I'm not really sure that I can make the trip unless I'm in the front seat, those bench seats will KILL my back for as long as the trip is. Another factor will be if someone in the group is left that needs to share a room. (Which will cut the costs down some.) The other factor will be, can I get something done on time? Heh. The inscentive is there...

John
