Kharkov 1943

Hi guys, here I'm back with this first piece (almost half I would say) made in the new year.
This is an old kit from Verlinden in 1/35, which my friend Mariano Numitone has improved, modified and set.
I had the task of painting it, trying to get the best detail possible, despite the small scale.

Wonderful portrait of an infantryman in a foxhole. I like the atmosphere and the shades you've got.

thanks guys, it was very interesting to paint this piece, because it allowed me to experiment with painting details on such a small scale.
Mariano's unusual choice to hide almost the whole piece inside a foxhole was a bit of a gamble, but in the end I realized that it made the effect he wanted to give well.

As above, I missed this one first time around too, & it’s a fantastic figure. I like the thousand-yard stare; he looks as though he’s just seen a flare go up & knows what’s coming next.
It also serves to illustrate that probably not every Waffen-SS soldier at Kharkov was lucky enough to have been issued with the rabbit fur lined winter parka.

The intention was just that, it shows a soldier in his hole who observes the distant fights on the horizon, but who will soon reach their lines.
