It hasn't opened yet, but it is one of two movies I plan to see in the theater in May. I agree, I expect alot of figs to come out of this

Hi, You are right¡ it looks like a good movie but not many people at least in Planet figure is not making comments about it, well everyones know that the market would be full of Crusader figure like the one of El Viejo Dragon, which is a not so good portray of the principal actor CG-119.

If you like the medieval figures should be happy  there would be alot of realease of Saracens and Crusaders everywhere¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

This time I would not pay much attention to the comments until I see the movie, after hearing many bad comments about Alexander it was really dificult for me to go to the movies. ;)

See ya at the movies.
Eduardo.

Let's hope that the forthcoming rush of filmic characters the movie is going to generate, causes, as a collateral effect, the release of some related historical figures, too.

I have heard, nevertheless, that they have cared more for historicity details (events, clothing, background, etc) than in movies like Braveheart or Gladiator. Mmmmh... cross your fingers.

Dani

I hasten to add, I have no problem about figures sprouting from films. It's just that to everyone his own, and because films are made for entertaining, usually historical accuracy is put aside when it is felt (rightly or wrongly) that it would conflict with commercial success.

For instance, Braveheart, no less, even won an Academy Award for clothing - obviously historical rigour did not play a part on the jury's decision!

So, generally speaking, (there are exceptions) figures based on films are not historically accurate, and must be considered separately of those that are or attempt to be so.

Dani

I agree with you Dani, sometimes the 'props' and costumes really can make a movie blow, or if they are good it can make a lousy movie worth watching due to its accuracy.

I hope this movie follows the lines of Gladiator and Black Hawk Down, both in my view are great entertainment and very motivational films to see.

The director, Ridley Scott, also did "The Duelists" as one of his first movies, so I have my hopes! The previews look pretty good, too.

Regardless of historical accuracy or lack thereof, One positive thing that comes of these movies is the interest in the subject that is sometimes generated. If one picks up a good book or two on the subject it should not take long to separate the "hollywood" from the history.~Gary

I second David, the Duellist is a great movie, Gary you are right but remember that many people for the lack of time, money or mind just stay with what the movie say and not history, but as some say once "If only one soul is save is worths the battle".

Eduardo

Historicity is one thing. Fun movies are another... :)

Alien, Gladiator, BHD, Duelists..

I will go see this one for sure...

THANK YOU! I love even some the crappiest (Historically) movies because I know that someone went out and picked up a book. I used to be terrible to go to these movies with, but now if it's at least entertaining and there is the possibility someone will do the read, cool! Case in point, I recently saw 13th Warrior with a bunch of history students and we had a great discussion afterwards (same with G&G)

hi

I too am looking forward to this film, the discussions from this type of film (Historical) always intrigue me. History has such a funny way of chnaging when different people look at it often wrote by the winners rather than the losers.

As far as hollywood being accurate they are smack on they made a film that entertains. I think that as miniaturists we look at things differently I would like to sit in on one of these Film classes to see if at first the students talk about camera angles, lighting or Historical accuracy after watching a film.

I sometimes have trouble with people who say that would never happen especially when the movie is about something that happened 7 to 8 centuries ago. Who is really to say if its right or wrong.

Who is really to say if its right or wrong

Well, Robin, I would say this can be done, in many cases with certainty, in others with educated guesses.... Which would, any day, be better (for me) than the "that happened too long ago for us to know" viewpoint. But that's just my opinion.

This is beginning to look like a dejà vu... ;)

Dani

I know what you mean about Deja vu.

Photographic evidence is one thing, crimea onwards is pretty much cast iron, but interpretation and guesses done a few times by a lot of people leaves alot to be desired, Lady Butler was supposed to be spot on but was wrong in so many ways.

Its not a case of it happened too long ago for us to know it happened, its just the way people say that definatley didn't happen and that definatley did. I have seen soldiers in the news in East Europe using Automatic Weapons from WW2 but that is pictures news reels, but would we believe that a roman soldier would use a helmet from 50 years before, Oh no would be the cry thats the wrong period cos of a wall carving and six or seven rusty bits of metal dug up.

I just find it strange.

Robin,

If you've ever watched 'Meet the Ancestors' on BBC2, you would know how much modern archeology and forensic investigative science can teach us from a wall carving and some rusty bits of metal.

;)

That's a great program!

I do watch it and I do appreciate that modern Forensics is fantastic, but again I would say it doesn't conclusively prove that weapons of different vintages were not used 50 and 60 years after they were made. It shows how they can reconstruct faces and pieces of equipment and say when they were made or what the person looked like, for the equipment it cannot say who used it and where.

I suppose what I am saying is I would like these experts be a little less definate , well I wouldn't expect him to be issued with it but if he was say on Hadrians wall and his helmat strap broke, he goes to the armourer to fix it, the armourers busy say and says leave it matey take that Helmet there for tonight who knows what they might wear.

I have seen it 30 men all in the same unit about to go out on Patrol and 30 different configurations colour diffrences weapons etc. Regulations don't always count.

Robin
