Introduction
Owning the first 75mm release of Pegaso Models and Maurizio Bruno, I was more than excited to have a closer look of his latest creation at 75mm, the Trumpeteer Major of 2nd Lanciers Guard France,1811-13. Kindly mr. Luca Marchetti offered this kit for reviewing (and I thank him a lot), so as soon as I received it, I opened the box and you will see for yourself in this review why I got amazed by this fine kit.
So sit back and enjoy this review
Historical Notes
The regiment of Red Lancers was formed in 1810 from three Dutch troops:
a) Garde du Corps
b) Guard Hussard Regiment
c) 3rd Hussard Regiment
The regiment wore on of the most stricking uniforms in Napoleonic Cavalry. The dutch lancers wore traditional Polish style headwear (top-squared) edged in yellow with a silver badge, white plume and yellow cords. Officers wore gold lace and cords. The trumpeters in the other hands wore, red pants and white top, white/red plume, white shako and gold lacing.
In 1812 the Red Lancers suffered in Russia where the Cossacks hunted them mercilessly.
In the end of the campaign the Polish Red Lancers had their horses rough shod and saved around 200 of them. But the Dutch Red Lancers didn't follow their Polish companions and were able to save just a few horses.
in 1813 this regiment was rebuilt with volunteers and King Joseph's (Napoleon's brother) guard. Many of these men were veterans. Some sources give the first 5 squadrons as Old Guard and majority Dutch. The other 5 squadrons were ranked as Young Guard and were reqruited in part from municipal cavalry of the Guard of Paris. I t was a very strong regiment and participated in many combats.
In 1815, Napoleon wrote: " As soon as possible Red Lancers must be increased to 3 regiments..." This however didn't happen, since the time was too short. In 1815 was only one regiment as they lacked men and accepted cavalrymen from different sources like Royal Corps, retirement, Young Guard and even shorter men of the horse grenadiers. During retreat after Waterloo they routed British Cavalry.

Quality and Detail
This time I was really stunned (I always do with such releases) from the first second I opened the box. The detail that Maurizio Bruno had put into this piece, is amazing. Name them one by one, the torso? the trumpeter, the trumpeter's banner? Everything is such well detailed that really makes you want to start paintign right away. Mold lines almost dissapeared, making the cleaning processes less than 5 minutes work.
Fitting is also excellent causing no problems. A big Bravo to Maurizio Bruno and Pegaso Models, releasing such a piece.
Painting
I will consider this figure as a fairly difficult one, since whites and reds are not the easiest colors to paint in our figure community. Add the gold lacing and details, making this kit a really challenge to paint. Do not hesitate though, with a little patience you will have a true gem in your hands.
Conclusion
As a final Conclusion I have to say that this release from Pegaso Models is an excellent piece that should exist in every's figure modellers collection, no matter what period you like to paint. It's a really diamond. Simple as that.
