I think "winning now" is a fair assessment. He is looking good, much neater and more defined in the details. Although I have never done Historex piece myself I admire modellers who do.

I finally got him back in the saddle this morning - after twenty years. He should really get another long service stripe for that.

There’s a lot of paint build-up that I can’t really do anything about; in future I’m going to try a ‘get it right first time’ approach to try and deal with the problem. I also discovered some 10/0 brushes in my local art shop that have also helped.

I also ordered the parts this morning for my artillery project and a couple more kits besides - as you do. There’s still a fair old way to go but I’m getting there.

Hi Rob, An Imperial Guard Marine soldier, an Imperial Guard Grenadier (no self-respecting collection can be without one), an Honour Guard trooper, a Carabinier officer, a Cuirassier officer, an Imperial Guard Dragoon trumpeter some resin heads and hands and a few extra bits I need for the artillery project.

Anyway, there’s now a veto on anymore kits - yeah right. :)

Nice. :)

A quick update on my trumpeter. Still not finished but definitely moving on. The horse and horse furniture are now well advanced too - but I haven’t got any pictures of those - yet. After such a long lay off from figure modelling this particular figure has got my eye and hand back in - and got me used to wearing one of those blasted magnifier head-sets without which I’d now be stuffed given my poor/old eyes.

take your time

Nap

Thank you very much Nap. ‘Time’ seems to be the operative word although I have to say I am really enjoying it. I’ve certainly got used to the magnifier; the upside is that it allows you to up your game - I’ve found that anyway - but it does slow things down a bit because getting things absolutely right does take longer; I suspect perfectionist personality traits are routine on this forum? :)

Very nice Paul, love the Historex figures though I think the last one I did was late 80's. Really like your approach it's really effective. Trouble I find with the magnifier thing is it makes the brush bigger ae well!

Cheers Simon

Yep, that is the problem with magnifiers Simon. I recently discovered a 10/0 brush in my local art shop which combats that to a certain extent - and thanks for the compliments - appreciated. :)

Paul, have you tried these.

They are synthetic which is what I use all the time, I assume they make similar in sable. The advantage is with a 10/0 point there is plenty of bristle to hold paint, I've been using them for years now. Initially found them.in the Range but seem to have to buy on line these days. Magnifier still makes them bigger but less to and from the palette all the time.

Cheers Simon

Thanks for that Simon. What I’m using appears to be very similar - I think they’re ‘ProArte’. Mine are all nylon as I find them to be much harder wearing than sable and modern nylon bristles are virtually indistinguishable from sable anyway - and they’re much cheaper. Dalon are generally excellent brushes so I may well check them out - thanks again.

My grenadier trumpeter is within a hairs breadth of being finished - yes, I’m still working on him - and with just a few bits of tidying up to do, he’s about done. That’s the first figure I’ve painted for nearly twenty five years and I think it’s safe to say I’ve definitely got the bug again. :)

Hi Paul

That’s looking just great , great face attitude on him , love the lacework and the patterns on the horse furnishings, the horse works really well , so very in keeping

So glad you have the bug
