‘The maid of Orleans’ – The making of (part 1)
I like to show you, in lots of photosteps (because of my poor english) how I make a diobox on 120mm scale.
This diobox is inspired by the magnificent cathedral of Rouen and the film ‘Joan of Arc’.
I tought a long time about the problem how to represent the theme. In my head was the stake with the fire, those who condemn her and the background. When I saw a picture of the cathedral most of the puzzle peaces came into a clear picture. The fire was another problem. Turning over the leaves of an artbook, I noticed a poster of Toulouse-Lautrec, one of the Follies Bergères where the hussys where dancing te can-can. That brought the solution. The wave of the dress, painted in red and yellow would be the symbol of the flames. If I place little figures of 90mm, dressed such, under a balcony, legs in the sky, I had found for this one, the egg of Christopher Columbus.
Those who where responsebel for her dead should be uggly figures, wicky, weary old men, animals and men of the clergy. I could make gargoyles or statues in stone, coming out on the left and right side of the entrance hall (bottom). I had a clear picture in my mind.
For all of my buildings, backgrounds and bases, I use a soft PVC plate of 1mm. It glues very well with rapid glue and cuts very easely and is quit sheap.
