Hi Guys

I would just like to show you my latest bust, its from Pagan Art Miniatures, its all metal, and a lovely one to paint, I have a couple of little changes to do with the pattern and the shirt showing through the slits. I have tried an added section to my method of painting flesh, and it makes the skin look a little more transluscent, please tell me what you think.

Dave

Nice work Dave, I've been eyeing this one up myself. You must be painting twenty four seven to be as prolific as you are, and keep the excellent standard.
Brilliiant mate!!!!

Kickin' bust, Dave! Love the colors! (mind sharing your formula for the red?) I like your rendition of him - he seems very much alive! Thanks for sharing - it's a great piece!

Looks very good, Dave. Especially eyes - very realistic. Keep up the good work!

best regards
Artur

I have seen this bust posted on here several times in various guises. It really is a fabulous sculpture (nice paint-job too!). But every time i look at it, I cannot help but notice that the eyes are WAY undersized!

This is one of those things that is not too difficult to fix if you are aware of it. It is really the one glaring glitch on an essentially fantastic sculpt, so it is worth the extra effort to fix it.

Sorry, to my eye - as is, the thing just looks wierd! To any future painters, I recommend making this fix before proceeding to paint.

I hope this helps....

Mike

Thanks guys

For all the comments and critique, I really appreciate it, all of it helps me to paint better, every figure, its good to have people out there who are willing to say what they think may be wrong with the way a figure is painted. constructive critique goes a long way, thanks again.

Dave this is top stuff mate!
I really like that distant, far-away look you've painted into the eyes, and the 'liquid' look they have as well.
Also priase-worthy is that golden-type detail on the tunic - I bet it drove you mad. It would me! ;)
Beautiful use of colours elsewhere as well.

Hi Dave,

Excellent work as always. i look forward to seeing it for real.

Regards Callum.

Hi Dave,

I really like the gold free hand on the tunic. It add a good rendition.

Yes you're right about comments and critics. I think the same, any "wrong" or "mistake" that somebody sees should be written. That helps to improve and to "have a better view" of the hobby :)

Here something I can "see". It's just a small detail.
Your skin deep shadows (near the beard for exemple) is too brown-red"warm".

The best way to give to figures a better deep and reading is this rule :
- highlights should be as possible "warm"
- shadows should be as possible "cold".

With that rules (it's not mine, I read it from Cannone brothers) you help for a better look to the figure.
Yes, naturally when human eyes are looking at 2 colors (one warm, and one cold) the warm one seems more close and the cold one seems more faraway.

On the first pic of your bust, you skin seems too flat for me.
With the rules I just written, you could add a more deep 3D effect.

Of course this rule is NOT THE RULE. Everybody is free to use it or not. I do use it as much as I can.
And I think the best way to know if this rule is good or not, it's to try it at least once :)

Anyway, I really like your paint job.
