DO YOU PREFER 90 MM OR 120 MM IN FULL FIGURES ( IRRESPECTIVE OF PERIOD/SUBJECT ) ?

  • Poll closed .
I can't vote irrespective of Period Kev, so my vote cannot be honest the ideal for me would be.....

90mm for mounted and foot Napoleonics.
120mm for native american Zulu Wars and modern,
That would fit with where we 'oldies all began' with:

90mm to fit amongst:- Almond, Post Militaire etc.
120mm to fit amongst:- Roll Call, Imperial Gallery,
Tiny Troopers, Pilipili, MMM,
CGS, Victory Miniatures etc.

That's the ideal, but I buy the sculpt not the scale,
and the paint colour not the brand name.

So I don't think any preference matters unless you have eyesight problems.

There's a couple of our dearest friends on here who would rather paint a war memorial nowadays to help the paintng
along now!
Fondant Regards.

Paul.

I find I have to use different techniques according to scales. Oils for larger figures and acrylics for smaller with 90-120 mm a mixture of the two.

90mm or 120mm? Hmmmm? 120mm can be a bit big sometimes, unless the figure is sitting down. Is there enough room in the cabinet? 90mm is a nice size but not as nice as 75mm. 120mm busts are a bit titchy for my taste, but we're not talking about busts Kevin "WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT BUSTS!!!!" 90mm or 120mm what will it be? I know!!!!
54mm!!
Yes, that's right. I think so. What do you think?

Started off with 54's and then moved up to Ray Lamb's 90's and J Benassi's 75's (?) Even did some 200 scratch builts, but they take sooooooooo long

In my current incarnation I only do 54's and eschew the dubious delights of the biggies. . . . .

I can't go lower than 54mm. I chose 90mm over 120mm. I prefer miniatures to be... more miniature. If that makes sense.
Plus 90mm is easier if the subject is mounted as 120mm horses are massive.

You have a good point there , going over the 90mm for full figures gets into the realms of manikins .
54mm is still the choice of the serious collector also.

Why I generally prefer larger scales . . .

There is a point where they become manikins , lose something and begin to look lick action man , even a 90mm horse is heading that direction.
I stop at 90mm foot 75 for mounted but prefer 54mm mounted

I have a 75mm J Benassi kicking around somewhere.
I remember seeing a 75mm mounted cuirassier master of his and nice it was too.

A point about scales and eyesight for the ageing .
Its all in the mind ,for you guys who do 90mm + go down to 54mm for a trial you will soon get used to that scale and detail will improve also .
