Legs v no legs(Bust)

I'm starting this thread for the members of PF who ask the question..."Nice but where's the legs".
My answer is this....and I'm sure I may get crucified for my opinion.
Busts.....allows the sculptor to create in his own comfortable scale.
..............allows the caster to cast in a comfortable and affordable scale.
Legs= both time and material to the sculptor and caster=cost.
To be honest.....I could go on,because I'm familiar with both........Just looking for the right answer to;....."Nice bust but why no legs"..............Regards to all...........Wayne

I don't think there is a standard or "right" answer to this. Each piece stands on its own merits and each of us will have a personal reaction to that piece.

The question was not based on a standard; The question was based on.........Why just do the upper part of the body and not the complete package?..........IE: no legs...................Answer?....Imagination..It leaves an opening in the viewers mind..................Wayne

Of course there is the other alternative as well and that is~ all legs

Provided that one is fully equipped on both ends I may have to pursue her/it; can't talk either!

Said before but here goes......reasons I like to do busts:

1. I like to model and paint faces because I do personalities;
2. Most interesting uniform detail is above the belt (including headdress and medals etc);
3. No need to include weapons if you don't want to;
4. Getting the anatomy and balance correct us easier;
5. No groundwork to do;
6. Can do larger scale portraits without having an enormous display cabinet;
7. A mix of scales for different projects displayed in a group doesn't look to be as "off";
8. I always lose interest in a project by the time I get to the legs and feet anyway ( read as couldn't be arsed to finish).

All that and a leg man too.

Lorne Sausage YES now you're talking. 4 slice of Lorne Sausage into a frying pan with 1 tin of chopped tomatoes, salt and loads of white pepper. Cook until tomatoes reduced by a half. Tuck in and compliment with a cheeky wee Guinness or 6.......best outdoor meal ever
