This is a great idea for a Bust, and the face is definitely Mad Jack Churchill, but I hope they put right the technical archery errors. There is a photo on Google images of Churchill drawing the bow at the 1939 which shows him drawing the bow with his drawing fingers along the jaw line Target fashion, using a longbow for what he used it for, he would likely have pulled the bow with the top finger of his drawing hand placed to the R/H corner of his mouth Hunting fashion. The arrow is only placed on the right hand side of the bow if you draw with the more asiatic thumb draw. His bow hand is wrongly positioned, the heel of the thumb should be braced against the handle of the bow and if he didn't wear a Bracer, when that bowstring hit he would have let out a yell to frighten Hitler!! All these points are clearly shown on YouTube postings.
These points notwithstanding, it's a lovely bust and a fitting trimute to a great excentric British hero.
Best wishes, Gary.
PS fellow planet member Chris Simmons did Mad Jack as a toy soldier conversion for the BMSS interbranch.

One further thing to add along with Gary's comments about the arrow placement (should be on the left) and the grip of the bow in the left hand is that the the arrows depicted in the design have 4 fletchings instead of three. For a long bow or laminated flat bow as the image suggests it is, three fletchings is the norm with the cock feather (index feather) facing away from the bow.

I hate being pedantic about models but as Hugo appears to be responding positively to the input I thought I'd add my own opinion as an ex archer.

Lovely looking bust btw!

Alex.

Ah it was all going so well till I read "5% of all sales will be going to the Royal Marines Museum ..a better recipient I cannot think of." Now while this is a fine model I don't know if my conscience will let me have it :shifty: :D Looks a superb sculpt seriously good luck with it

Old grudges die hard :D you couldn't even touch now :ROFLMAO:

Already mentioned in my contribution!

Nice to see he's got the draw back to his ear, however, in true warbow fashion.

Cheers, Alan

I would actually say that longbow draw to lips and nose will be more appropriate, for a number of reasons, like this being a longbow, Jack being a competition shooter (accuracy being main consideration) and helmet that will prevent war bow draw (unless you tilt your neck, which will bust accuracy or move helmet to the side).

Plus there are references of Mad Jack drawing to lips and nose and archery is a massive habit builder.
