Hi guys,

RP Models have sent me the 3D pictures of the latest bust due release a follow up for the Basilone and Patton busts ...it is the insanely mad and very heroic Jack Churchill

He is depicted in the act of firing his longbow at the enemy (who he successfully despatched) in 1940 when serving in the Manchester Regiment , after he came off this operation he applied for selection to the Cdo ..successfully and went on to win many bravery awards including DSO's....

A true brave and very much a highly respected officer .....some say he should have had the VC.

5% of all sales will be going to the Royal Marines Museum ..a better recipient I cannot think of.

An excellent sculpt of an outstanding if eccentric marine. Two detailed points regarding the Longbow. Firstly the arrow is fired to the left, not right of the bow. Secondly the arrow would have three, not four, fletches, with the horizontal fletch when the arrow is notched to the left of the arrow's shaft (see http://stazjohnson.deviantart.com/art/14th-Century-English-Longbow-man-381195168).

Nice sculpt of an "odd" characer but the only niggle is the position of the rear arm. Surely the rear elbow , hand, cord, arrow and bow hand should all be in line. He seems to be trying to pull the bow cord and arrow away to the side of the bow instead of directly backwards.
It may be the angle of the photo though.
Nice subject for a bust and I might even be tempted if the bow geometrics are correct

I really wish manufactures consulted people who know a little, before sending to caster and getting well deserved flack.

Seconding comments about arrow and angles above and much more than that unfortunately.

Longbow itself is too short, when pulled. string should touch his cheek , he is wearing no protection on his fingers and no brace on left hand.
I am not sure about this strange line along the bow which is ? supposed to represent laminate (should be painted) but because of it I cant tell if the back of the bow is round or square.
The ends of the bow should be more tapered and horns could be more elegant

There is more, but as its cast its cast...

Hi Guys ,

The arrow will be changed as for the position , the position was taken from an actual picture

Guadin,

Thanks things can still be changed my friend as its not cast yet only on the way ! I will pass on comments again......would he have worn a wrist protector ..he has his uniform sleeve down, maybe a finger brace though?

Bow length?

The fact we are seeing all these "corrections" and " suggestions" here is indeed a fascinating process to follow.
This is a very intriguing, interactive way for a new product to be reviewed.
Love the way this 3d version is being presented and altered to suit the market before our eyes......this is just one obvious benefit of a 3d figure.
It can be presented to it's potential audience and they can dictate the changes which will make it even more attractive to them.
Great to see,all the best with this piece.

I agree with all the above comments, plus the fact that it is inordinately difficult to shoot a longbow[ 70"-76"length] whilst wearing a rimmed helmet. I know, I've tried it. Nice to see he's got the draw back to his ear, however, in true warbow fashion.

Cheers, Alan

This is a great idea for a Bust, and the face is definitely Mad Jack Churchill, but I hope they put right the technical archery errors. There is a photo on Google images of Churchill drawing the bow at the 1939 which shows him drawing the bow with his drawing fingers along the jaw line Target fashion, using a longbow for what he used it for, he would likely have pulled the bow with the top finger of his drawing hand placed to the R/H corner of his mouth Hunting fashion. The arrow is only placed on the right hand side of the bow if you draw with the more asiatic thumb draw. His bow hand is wrongly positioned, the heel of the thumb should be braced against the handle of the bow and if he didn't wear a Bracer, when that bowstring hit he would have let out a yell to frighten Hitler!! All these points are clearly shown on YouTube postings.
These points notwithstanding, it's a lovely bust and a fitting trimute to a great excentric British hero.
Best wishes, Gary.
PS fellow planet member Chris Simmons did Mad Jack as a toy soldier conversion for the BMSS interbranch.

I agree with the above comments but, if some corrections are made...will certainly buy it!

Hi
this is a great bust, a few points have been mentioned ref the bow etc which is fair enough, good to discuss before release. I think when displayed it will become a great conversation piece enabling discussion about a true maverick hero. Great news that 5% is going to a great cause to, best of luck!
