thanks Gordy.

I learned that a good skull is very important.
It took me way too long to get at this stadium and made me spend a lot (!) of time on things that weren't right.

when proportions are correct it's easier to look for flaws or improvements.

Haven't done this oftenly, discovering more and more and it's a nice extension for my drawingwork.
really love doing this :)

the position of the eyes needed to be more to to the sides and I wanted tohem to be larger so the iris can be painted.
Doing this I also hope to enlarge some mimics of this character when I start painting.

thanks for watching all of you by the way ! ;)

René

Looking good Rene,

I think it would be better to try for the "less is more approach"........

Remember, sculpting will get you so far, then you have to rely on paints for the rest.

as for enlarging the eyes, I would be steady about this, as too large eyes may undo your work; it is tricky though, getting the balance.

(and it is possible to paint iris on very small scales......)

Still, it has been a great delight in watching your figure improve, getting closer each time!

Keep up the good work, don't be afraid to say "enough" though!

It's never 'enough':) Jamie...

The scenes I have in mind Ed's eyes are clearly visible, that's what I meant by 'larger'.
When shapes are correct ( some ears will follow) I will look for the best characteristic mimic ( shocked, snobistic, concentrated) in which he will be recognized best.

For each scene there is a different lightplan. Outside the factory in the end there is a lot of 12 o clock shadow and this is actually the lighting I oftenly check in Ed's face under my lamp.
when I feal safe about this I wil mold him and start painting, it's really encouraging sculpting a torso with an excellent head in stock :)

I am still not content of his nose.
still some work to do.

now focussing on just one picture for best results.
Sounds like a good idea.

I though you'd moved away from a likeness in the early stages René but it's really come along, looking good in this pic in particular:

I think you captured the eyes a couple of steps back so what's made the difference here is centred around the lips and cheeks. The likeness is good enough now that without seeing a title I think most people who know what Ed Harris looks like would recognise who this is (y)

Einion

That's very kind of you to say Einion..

I started out wrong. The Caricaturist in me was tempted by pinning down things that occured to me when thinking of Ed. Working in this mode I obviously want too fast results.
Each time I made corrections I noticed his skull (and for no matter what other sculpt) was also very determing.
Next time I start with a good skull.

René

Your perseverance has definitely payed of with all the corrections and reworking you have created just the right effect, very good result with the likeness.

Cheers
