I would like to make heraldry decals but am having a bit of trouble with eth basics. I download .jpg, giff, bmp format images which are typically back and whit (back outline white fill colour. What I would like to do is using MS paint or even MS word if possible is to fill the image with a different colour and either remove the black outline or change the colour to the fill colour. Is this possible without me having to need a degree? BTW I do have Photoshop but it scares me

Talino,
I personally wouldn't use anything other than Photoshop. I don't know that you are going to be able to do it any other way. Do you know someone who can do it for you? I know it can be an intimidating program, but it is fairly straightforward for changes like these. Just get in there and get your feet wet. I have been using it for 15 years and still don't know all there is to know about it! There are pleanty of resourses out on the web to read up on it. Give it a try. If you run into trouble give me an email, I'll see if I can help you out. Good luck,

First of all if you are making decals there are two types of printer paper: clear and white. If you want white to appear in your decal then you will have to use the white paper. However this requires cutting it out carefully.

Any color in PhotoShop can be replaced and with high contrast black and white images the job is very simple using the wand tool. Just click on the black are of the object and the want will create a selection of it which you can then make any color you want.
