Hi Guys .. dug one of my gray army figures out of the loft. A Mitrecap Miniatures 150mm British Ensign 4th Foot, Pennisula war 1808. A nice figure sculptered by Pete Barnicle.
The flag is such a great big lump of metal with very little detail on it, and I thought I would try and create the same on a computer and then print it off, therefore I will be able to create the folds better and the flag will look more natural with the figure, So any ideas how I go about making the flag on a computer ???
Also any references as to the flag detail of the 4th foot 1808 Penninsula war would be gratefully received..... cheers ... Pete

Hi Pete,

If you need references for the regimental colour during the Peninsula war you really need to speak to someone who's a total expert on the regiment. I've found (having been one) that re-enactors are a wealth of nerdy knowledge, and are only too happy to impart their fountain of detailed facts and figures upon the unwary hobbyist!

Try contacting this bunch:

As for the computer side of things, I can't offer anything but encouragement!

Until about 4-5 years ago I was a complete technophobe, and couldn't see the use of computers in our hobby. Now I'm an absolute convert, even though I haven't actually used the technology for anything yet!

But I do understand the use of colours in the design of photoetch (http://www.modelshop.co.uk/services/s_03.htm), which program to use to have something printed out on a 3D printer (http://www.printapart.com/applications/scalemodeling.html), and can't wait to try out Photomodeler to recreate actual buildings in miniature (http://www.photomodeler.com/applications/architecture_and_preservation.htm)!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Cheers,
Jon.
