Roc,
Yea, it's sweet isn't it? Looks so real and it's a great compliment to the brush work...really nicely done. Can't wait to see more

Patrick

Colin, excellent work. Don't dread groundwork. Have you ever tried doing groundwork first before painting the figure? Maybe that will change your perspective.

I'm bogged down on this guy at the moment - except for a first crack at the base I haven't touched him since my last post. Doing the groundwork first is a great idea - just like reconciling my chequing account on a monthly basis. But I know I'll never do either.

I ALWAYS go for the face as soon as the primer is dry and rush headlong to stay ahead of my eroding motivation. I never succeed.

But I will pick myself up and give myself a slap to finish this. I'll post more pix when I have something to report.

Thanks

Colin

I know everyone has said this already but, that is by far the very best painting of lace I have ever seen. The entire figure is overall excellent, but the lace is amazing work.

If your family doesn't want it I'll take it.

Hello Colin,
Am I right in thinking that you also did a 54mm Fournier Saloveze (can get the sp right) figure sometime ago on another forum? If so, you have awesome technique.

Rgds Victor

Thanks for the kind words Victor. I previously did a 54mm, a 1/48 and a 140mm of Fournier (what can I say....I like the uniform).
BTW - I am still alive but Marshal Ney is in a holding pattern awaiting a new wave of inspiration. I will finish him and will post some new pix once I've done so.

Cheers

Colin

Some progress:

Need to finish hands, fur on coat, rear gold trim and some small touchups. That was the longest dry spell I've faced in a while. Phew!

That's most impressive Colin !

Ney looks fantastic.

You should do all of Napoleons marshals :)

Colin-

I am glad that you made your way back here!

Marshal Ney looks great. It has been a real pleasure to see this figure.

What's next?

Keith

WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW  .......

I LOVE it!! an absolutley superb figure, brilliant painting... you should be proud!!!! :)

Thankyou all for the kind comments - I am almost finished but what a dry spell. Couldn't do more than walk around the house with him for months. BTW - does anyone else take their figures with them to the bathroom - my wife jokes about it. I find that looking at the figure in the batroom mirrors exposes flaws that I wouldn't otherwise see.

In terms of what's next - I will definitely do some more 1/6 figrues as I really like working in this large scale. I'll have to see what springs to mind - I'd like to have a go at Junot as Colonel Gbneral of Hussars or do a portrait figure of one the German resistance personalities from July 20, 1944. I've also toyed with doing a 1/6 Alexander or Augustus Caesar.

I have a large grey army of purchased figrues that require painting too but no motivation. If its summer blahs, that's the first time they've ever hit me in 47 years.

Colin

Colin, Given the incredible detail you're able to achieve, I think a Junot would be quite a piece.~Gary

Colin, I was looking at your Marshal Ney again and itt looks as though the last picture has him sitting at your kitchen table. Sure is a lifelike realistic job you have done.
