Thanks guys for your comments! About the sash, there are several paintings of Ney which shows the sash detail. I didn't try to copy it but just used it as a guide. The "watermarks" are applied using a lighter shade of the red to the base coat with a even lighter shade to follow the folds in the sash itself. I have other references of other sashes and incorporated them into the design. Whatever looks right is where I stop. You can overpaint it you are not careful. With a lot of painting, it can be trial an error.
That is why I love acrylics, if you don't like how it looks you can paint over it rather quickly. I hope this helps. Sometimes you just have to dig in and see where it takes you. Thanks again on your interest.
