I know they are way out of fashion now, but does anyone know of a UK (or better EU) supplier of MDF pedestal display bases. Simple unpainted squares and rectangles, 12-15mm high with a partial bevelled edge: So base is vertical sided at bottom, slight inward bevel in mid section then vertical again for the top couple of mm.

I bought several kilos of mixed sized bundles way back when but have mislaid most of my smaller, single figure ones. Can't recall the maker but he used to work the SW show circuit. I think he was based in Torquay. It is only the single figure sizes I am after.

You're probably thinking of Paul Thompson and 'Just Bases'. The remembered location is correct.
Unfortunately he ceased trading a while back.
I used to buy my plinths in bulk from him.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew, that name rings a bell so would be right. Hope he stopped because he wanted to not because he had to, nice guy.
I am surprised how difficult it is proving to find someone doing them now. Flat wargame bases I can find by the lorryload but display plinths in MDF are elusive to say the least. I am down to sanding and refinishing some old used ones now.

Thanks, I have plenty of Vignette and bigger bases in my stash but need single figure ones for my 54mm figures.
I have tried eBay but nobody on .co.uk or .es seems to do 2" square (actually Pauls were 55mm squares)

@Nap, is the contact mail in your showcase thread for Pete's Bases still valid? that post is from 2016.

Yes it is but here's his FB link where you can send a message https://www.facebook.com/pete.watson.7921

Miro, thanks but those are wargame style flat bases, the ones I am trying to find are 12-18mm high with sloped sides.

Like these but in plain MDF for painting:

Nick Smith has started making bases for figures, he's based in Cornwall and trades at some of the shows in the SW. He will be at Yeovil on 22nd October and Bugle Call 0n 26th November. However, they aren't plain MDF and they are mostly pedestal type bases but he does have quite a wide range of stuff.

Thanks Nigel, does he have a contact or a web presence?

Hey Neil, yes I have considered 3D but to serve purpose they would require some weight, so would need to be hollow to be filled or solid resin, which then puts them at about the same price as real wood. The great thing about the old MDF ones was they were heavy and cheap.
There are some Ebay sellers with printed bust pedestals and such, mainly special decorative ones with lava caves or catacombs visible inside the pedestal. Wonderful for competition or show display, but overkill for a home wall cabinet.

Hello Rob

There's a trader on eBay called Deans Plaques (no connection) who does that style of base in 18mm MDF. I expect bigger than what you are looking for but they do custom sizes so they might be worth contacting.

Regards, Dean

Rob,
Jeff Shiu figure on mdf base bought off ebay. I’m sure one of the ebay sellers could cut to size as Dean says above. You could get 4 bases for 54mm from this one. Or if you’ve got a decent bench saw, cut them yourself…

Thanks Dean, I will check out your namesake.

@Billy, nice work on that big German.
I can cut vertical edge bases like that, I do a lot for my wargame armies, but I don't have a router table or dado head cutter just a simple chop saw, so the rolled edge I am after is beyond my ability. Technically I could set my saw up to do a single angled cut up to 45 degrees, but with only 55mm to play with that means getting fingers far closer to the blade than I am happy with.
