Final Groundwork
and mounting the figure

The figure is in the final stages of the groundwork and I decided the rocks needed lightening a little so I dry-brushed white very carefully, with my flat dry-brush just barely touching the rocks.

The above photo of the left shows the white dry-brushed on the left hand side and the right hand remain the color of the previous dry-brush.

Above are the other views of the rocks dry-brushed with white.

The above base is now ready for the vegetation to be added.

Above you see Joefix turf added as well as woodland scenic tall grass. The short grass was added using Crazy glue and the tall grass was added by using Elmers glue and then with a pick spreading out the shoots of grass as the Elmers Glue started to set up.

Above a test fit is done to check to make sure the feet fit solidly down into the depression that was left while the plaster mix was poured. As you can see I had to remove some of the small rocks and debris and touch-up the area with dark brown acrylic paint.

Above the Indian has been test fitted again and sits there while I decide if I want to add larger debris / deadfalls, etc.

[ continued in next posting ]

Taking the Indian back off the base I searched through my drawer looking for large and small deadfalls to add more realism to the scene without overpowering the Indian with too much groundwork. My whole concept is to enhance the figure.........not overpower it.

Base 50.JPG

Above I chose a large deadfall from the groundwork drawer to place on the front of the base in the right hand corner.

Base 52.JPG

I chose a smaller deadfall to lay on the rocks behind the figure. I decided small because I already had rocks in the rear of the scene.

Base 51.JPG

Above you see both deadfalls in the scene with a couple of clumps of Woodland Scenic tall grass just behind the front deadfall.

Base 53.JPG

Now is the time to mount the figure permanently to the base using 2 part epoxy glue.

Base 54.JPG

Above you see the already finished Wolf-tails added to the back of the moccasins using again, 2 part epoxy glue.

Base 55.JPG

The last part to be added today is the finished arrows. I dipped the tips into the epoxy and carefully inserted them into the quiver.

Next is the hair braids to be painter and attached and the final photos taken of the finished. I have ordered a brown brass plaque with gold letters to go on the front next to the rock crevice on the front.

All comments welcomed
Thanks for looking.

An excellent result,Guy.
The base perfectly compliments your figure without distracting the eye from it.Well done.
Thanks for showing us how you got there.

Thanks for the kind words Mark. I have always felt the groundwork should never detract from the figure but enhance the figure. Hard to achieve sometimes.

Thanks Mark. I am getting ready to post the final photos after finishing the hair braids and attaching them this morning.
