Hi Everyone.
Now the latest project is done with, I'm heading back to the Middle Ages and a Tartar Miniatures figure. This is a favourite subject, but it's the only one in my stash.
Historex are a pale shadow of their former selves (gone are the days of >£100 orders) and what's available from El Greco doesn't whet my appetite, so I had hoped that people here might be able to suggest a supplier?
Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
DS

Hi David,

It depends if you are only after Medieval stuff or your tastes are more general, but there are plenty of good suppliers.

In no particular order, SK Miniatures (Steve Kirtley), Stormtroopers/Troop54 (Stu Hale), MMM (the Mitchell brothers), RGD Miniatures (their dad Gordon), Carl Reid .... all are UK based and great to deal with. No doubt other guys will be able to suggest some more (these were just off the top of my head).

I agree with your comments about Historex Agents. For me they haven't really moved with the times (apart from with their prices of course) and most of their inventory is fairly uninspiring these days. I still check in occasionally and have a look to see what they've got (just in case) but I haven't placed an order with them in ages.

As far as El Greco are concerned, they used to be my go-to suppliers for all the Russian-made stuff from Altores, Mercury, Revolution, Medieval Forge etc. but since the Ukraine war kicked off, Russian-made figures have become very hard (albeit not impossible) to source and EG appear to have been just running down their existing stocks of the Russian-made ranges ever since, to the point that they've now all been picked over with only the less desirable stuff left.

All of which from a purely modelling standpoint is a shame because regardless of one's thoughts about the war, there's no denying that the Russian firms produce arguably the best and most exciting figures around today and were doing so for a number of years before.

Hi David,
I have these available if any use. One is a 90mm figure and I'm sure the rest are 54mm.
cheers

Quite a lot of the above-mentioned figures, although Russian (a good number are Ukranians !) can be obtained from il.miniatures. based in Germany. Worth a try.....

Alan

I was buying semi-regularly from him until the second half of last year, but unfortunately he's now stopped selling to the UK via his website.

When I contacted him back in October to ask him why, he said something vague about EU regulations now forcing small businesses to use large sales platforms (which seemed a bit strange). My suggestion that he just send me a PayPal invoice instead and he could sell direct to me that way went unanswered, and he directed me to his sales on eBay .... where I straight away noticed that his prices were higher!

I decided I wasn't going to play that game, so until and unless he starts selling to the UK via his site again (or reduces his eBay prices to match those on his site), I doubt that I will be placing any more orders with him. A shame though because he has a wide range of stuff and was always quick to post out orders.

Here's his eBay page in case anyone wants to go down that road:

His web site is:

Just checked his Website. He ships to GB but adds postage fees and has to add tax fees of the destination. This increases the total. A Brexit consequence obviously. His available stock is shrinking - maybe due to the tricky supply from Russia. Cheers Martin

Yes, it's a shame. I decided to start painting with focus on medieval in February '22 just on the eve of the war and was able to get some Mercury/Medieval Forge Models from El Greco on my first orders but their stock has become much less interesting since then.
Now I mostly order from the above mentioned IL Miniatures and Berlin Zinnfiguren in Germany.
