Many years ago Phil Walden shared, via his friend Ian Fainges, this original sculpt of Captain Phil Fry
https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/capt-phil-fry-gallipoli-1915-120mm.34598/#post-353967

So the years past & yesterday I completed painting this original sculpt in time for ANZAC Day.

I’ve still to base him up on a custom base also made by Phil.
Will share full shots when this is done.

Work in Progress detail can be found here:

And further background in my book, due July, where I’ve shared other WW1 creations by Phil.

How’s he look to you?

Another master effort Mike. You are in a class of your own. Simply brilliant work.

Cheers
Chris

PS. Had a long phone call with Chris Pugsley this morning to discuss ‘Hooky’ Walker, which then covered over a number of issues on Gallipoli. Hope to get across the ditch later this year.

Marvellous!!!!!!!!
Holy cow! Doesn't look like a model, but like the man himself come to life.
Superb. Faultless. I'm in total awe.
Thanks Carl, Peter, Doc & Hobbes a special project, which is good to almost get done.
Been stored away for way too long.
Just started sorting out base materials for this coming weekend.
Photos maybe a bit big, could give false impression of detail you can actually see on figure at 120mm 1:15-1:16 scale. However good knowing it helps tell his story & shows detail I've tried to incorporate in my painting. Sometimes wonder if I've tried too hard to include lots of various effects, important getting feedback from others to get a sense of what can be seen & put my own impressions into context.

Always value your encouragement, support & experience Chris.
Should have Captain Phil in a new display case by time you come over hopefully, also got a house move soon, closer to where you visit.
Interesting to hear of chat with CP - you got another book in the wings mate?
You ask "how's he look?" .........STUNNING
That's all I can say Mike. Thanks for sharing
Looking forward to the book

Wow, absolutely stunning.
Excellent work!
Excellent work Mike. Looks like the man himself. You are in a class by yourself when it comes to painting.
Can’t add anything more than what’s already been said Mike-fantastic and breathtaking piece of artistry.
Neal
Great painting. Realism is on top!
Honestly humbled by response to Phil's figure and my painting guys.
Mike, Joe, Bob, Giwe, Dave, Neal and König sincerely appreciate your messages.
Thanks to each of you for taking time to comment & reassuring to read your posts.
As mentioned above always very unsure about how my figures look until I share photos as no-one else sees these.
Fantastic! The worn look of the leather pieces is amazing.
Kia ora Mike
Bloody brilliant painting mate. Really highlights Phil’s brilliance as a sculptor.
Wonderful to hear from you my Aussie mate, trust life for you & yours is OK.
Agree Phil's sculpt here really captured the essence of this officer on the frontline.
You'l know much more about Captain Phil H.Fry's & 10th Light Horse legacy in West Aussie.
So if Phil & I help continue this that will be very special.
Mike
As everyone is saying - he’s amazing!!! I don’t know how you do it but I know it involves a great deal of skill and a whole lot of patience. Wonderful!!!
Andy
Hi Andy my friend, wanted to make sure I complete as many of the Work in Progress projects in the book before it comes out.
Took awhile longer to get Captain Phil to this stage & trust now will be able to effectively display him.
Small niggles about how to pose him, but will resolve that with some fiddling around this weekend.

Kind regards to all,
MikeTheKiwi
