Unbelievable work! You have done an outstanding job on this... the flesh tones, for me, are truly mind-blowing. This will be one of those I look at over and over. Thanks for sharing!

Ronnie

Mike, many thanks for those links.:)
I know the participation of NZ in WWII, but sincerely, I´m convinced that LRDG was only the English SAS, NOW my knowledge about WWII is wider.
Thanks!

Cheers,
Pedro.

Hi Chris,

Haven't seen full doco only bits of it. Will continue to keep an eye out for it again on Sky, hopefully they will replay.

Sepia tone photo was the real commemorative one & a special one for today.

Stay safe,

Mike

Hi Mike,
Very atmospheric. The bust is very much brought to life. The glint in the eye in the darkness shows up to me.
Andy

Value your feedback mate & neat to see you'd picked up the glint.

Supposed to be depicting early morning rising, taking time out for a durry when a safe time allows.

Look forward to sharing trip to Aussie with you in a few months.

Well done again on the new projects.

Mike

Hi Ronnie,

Be wary mate, not all you see on the web is as it is in real life ;)

I only mention this because in reflection we see figures like my bust here 20-30 times larger than in real life. We could never view this on the real bust. Detail in photo is affected by camera, software & monitor it is viewed on so can only ever be a representative example.

Am glad though it inspires you & can be useful for your own work.

Thanks for the humbling comments.

Mike

Excellent Mike, will inspire me to get some more done on mine. See you in Alex or Brisbane....which every comes first.

Thomo

Alex? Sorry mate won't make it there.

But look forward to meeting again & chatting over figures in Aussie.

Thanks for comment, look forward to seeing yours too!

Stay safe mate,

Mike

Thanks Pete for your comments. Not always sure of fleshtone & tried a new mixture for this using the brilliant book recommended by Kaz a wee while back. Will continue to use this for future bust projects f'sure.

These always help drive you forward to get better with the next project.

Appreciate your support.

Mike

Mike,
This is superb and really looking battle worn. Inspirational work.
Cheers
John

I always strive to make my projects appear 'real' & consistent with the individuals they represent.
Pleasing this seems to have come through John.

Thank you for the comment.

Mike

Great job Mike, you've done him proud.

Jim

Thanks Jim, haven't mastered the camera yet. Still struggling to get clear shots I'm comfortable with like your ones.

Will have to practice another day, got lots to still do today.

Bye,

Mike

Most certainly did Joe, as well as "Barce Raid" & "Bearded Brigands" by Brendan, plus the Vanguard & Osprey titles. Fair bit of material available on these chaps actually.

Thank you for kind comments on this project.

Mike
I have a keen interest in the L.R.D.G and have read numerous books. However, copies of Barce Raid and Bearded Brigands have eluded me. Its my understanding that these titles are out of print. Do you know of a source in your country for them? Again, you render very well with a brush and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Hi Joe,

Believe they are out of print, however both are in our local library & I have seen second hand copies available at militaria book sales here. We have an annual Armistice Day event in November where these are sold, if you are unable to get some before then, I'd be happy to see if I could get you from dealers there.

In meantime here are some advertised copies for sale from our local "Amazon" & "EBay". You could try these, mail to me & I could on send if you want? If interested PM me here.

Bearded Brigands:
Also just seen we have one of the coats represented on this bust available at a very reasonable price here in NZ too:
