If I hadn't seen the earlier photo Mike, I would have thought the chinstrap was real leather. I have run out of superlatives to describe your painting - simply outstanding and the realism is unbelievable. Changing hankies as I write. :cry
I haven't seen the colour patch previously. What does it signify?
Chris
Thanks Chris, wanted to pay homage to the Harper brothers with this bust.
Robin & Gordon served with Machine Gun Troop of Canterbury Mounted Rifles
- checker board flash is for this unit.
Also a red & black one on pugaree's right side to denote MG unit.
They are subject of a recent book telling the story of their service.

As said before ... brilliantly painted face.
The hat and trimmings all look like real cloth, right down to what looks like a thin ring of salt from his sweat.
Truly incredible!

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks again Andrew.
Exposing myself a bit here I admit, struggling to downsize these photos off the phone.
Means photos are way too big & reveal painting flaws to fixed - oh well ;)
However thought you may like to see the salt sweat rings you spotted.
Want to show this chap coping with the harsh 1915 Sumer conditions on Gallipoli.
His clothing is the main way of doing this, starting with his slouch hat.
Will be interested to see if I can pull this off.
Another fun challenge.
What do you think?
