Warts & all...
Early stages of Maori Officer.
Lots to be done still.

Well you never know what will happen with my projects some times.
Sadly got a number of 'No' votes for this fellow as a Maori officer, just haven't managed to capture look I was after.
So am trying some other options as an officer in Egyptian Expeditionary Force during 1916 Arab Revolt

Thoughts, feedback really appreciated ...

Firstly, the face is superbly painted.
My main put-off for looking at it as a Maori are the pursed lips of the original sculpt.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew, I was probably being a bit optimistic thinking he would be right with the mouth like this.
I like the attitude these convey and have given up on reference to a Maori Officer now.
Appreciate your comment, instead will complete him as Western Desert based Officer.

Stay safe,
Mike

Superb Mike.(y)
Thanks Gordon & Carl, eyes are most special part of this fellow.
Happy New Year to you both.
Mike
Whatever this finishes up as it's going to be a great addition to the group
Love those eyes
Have you a reference that you are working from for the Expedition bust ?
Following as with the rest with awe and interest !

Thank you Kev, have decided he will become simply 'Artillery Officer, EEF, 1916'
I've decided to keep sun helmet 'Topi' with a Blue/Red flash for Royal Artillery.
I've researched the units and background in this Battlegroup, but never came up with definitive images.
He'll be representative of one of the many Egyptians, Indians and other Muslims who served, at all levels, with British Forces during this time. A bit different from original concept but still a little out of ordinary & unique which is what I was after.

Happy 2017 to you and yours.

Mike

UPDATE: This is what he ended up like:

Thanks again Bob!
ref "style of painting is instantly recognisable" - is that a good thing?
I've been pondering this lately...

I think it is, we recognise a Horan figure or other painters by there distinctive style. You seem to have nailed this style as your's.
I look forward to seeing more of your work Mike.
Best regards

Mike,

Your skill at painting faces is outstanding. I don't know how you get so much detail and realism into the flesh and clothing on such small figures and busts. It is simply inspirational, and a sheer pleasure to behold. If I could do half as well, I would be an extremely happy man. Well done and congratulations.

Chris
