The detail you achieved is just incredible Mike, the blanket and pack are the stand outs for me. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Good to hear from you here Andy, thanks :)
Sleeves & Lewis Gun still very much in progress onto these tonite.
Will have to see where I can get it to by this weekend.

Mike......What you don't know won't hurt you........Keep up the good work....Followed this long...not gonna pack my bags now.......Wayne

Wayne & Tony, guys cannot believe you bumped this thread over 300posts 8-O
Even if slightly inappropriate that last one of Tony's ;)
How the heck this happened is beyond me.
There's bound to be a few lost or drifted off on the way, so I better get on & finish this.
Trust me after this project I'm going dark for my next ones :)

Thanks all!

The close ups are a real help Mike, thx. I prone to printing up pics and pegging them to the shelf railing for reference during painting, especially when attempting a new technique. I have two more figures left for my 200mm dio, so I'm thinking fig #4 can be a test dumby, why not. Thx again buddy!

Cheers, Ski.

it still is and will be some intriguing piece of art.
Marc

Well Marc, Joe et al.

Probably last couple of In Progress photos I'll post on this thread guys as I close in on final stages of this project.

Studying bloody clothing on web to get a feel for this last part wasn't fun & not sure whether I've quite got there. Your advice would we be welcome.
Once bandage is painted may fit better with story.
Aim was to get dried blood & mud on this arm as Charlie has gone down with a minor flesh wound to his wrist.

Anyway, we can but try...

Mike, just caught up with latest updates. all coming together nicely, the dried blood looks a little glossy (might be my monitor?) in my opinion. If fresh the colour is fine but older blood may want to have a browner hue. love the wee pack with blanket.
as an aside.. it's 30 odd degrees here and just come off the golf coarse, too hot to do anything outside and too hot to model/paint.. will have a few cold ones instead...

Hi Mike,
Love the texture created,total realism.
Cheers

Hi Andy & Les.
Thanks for post guys.
Trust you survived the heat today :)

Have added a bit more darker brown today Les after your tip & finished bandage.

Just got hands to do & finishing touches.
Away this week & long weekend up here so will not get chance for final photos for another week or so.

Stay safe

Mike

Hi Mike,
As Andy said...Love the texture created, total realism. You can almost smell the fustiness of that back pack and could clean that enamel mug out with a rub of sand. You ANZAC lads certainly know how to give these figures the treatment, very impressed. Looking forward to the finished piece and a fitting cabinet companion for the Maori.
cheers

Hi Richie,

Sounds like you have a feel for being "in the field" mate, so really value your thinking.
Just been working on his right hand tonite & it's looking a mess with scratched knuckles plus dried blood oozes out between fingers. Got to have another look on weekend to see if this has come off Ok, but expect another hour or two to make sure it's ready to take Lewis Gun which is all but done apart from some tidy up on woodwork.

Thanks for commenting

Mike

Well with my profession I can say that you hit the color of blood amazingly.
First I thought that you used real blood, but that will not hold this color.;)

marc

Hi Marc,

I once did use real blood on a large scale figure bandage, but I was a kid & didn't quite get the long lasting effect I was after ;-)

This morning I worked on a trickle of fresh blood & fluid seeping down wrist from under wrist bandage.
Hoping that will look effective when it dries.

Appreciate your expertise on this subject mate ;-)

Tx!

I've just come back to this, what a marathon. It has been worth it though, the level of detail you've reached is unbelievable that looks like a real G10 itchy blanket in his large pack. The Charley's war comics are available as books through Amazon if you're interested, brilliant art work in them.
Congratulations.

Pure realism.
Marc
Superb detail makes this stand out. Excellent painting...........

Am grateful for your follow up posts Marc, Bob & Scotty.
Just added these scrappy iPhone shots as part of completing the detail in thread as this is a detail area that may be missed when final photos are done.

Still weighing up getting CW comics.
Shame they aren't digital as I prefer these nowadays.

Stay safe,

Mike
