My next is this well known bust by Carl Reid for Mitches, depicting an officer of the Iron Brigade, ACW. I've seen a couple of excellent treatments of this one on PF and they are a tough act to follow. I do find this sculptor's work challenging to paint, so again, no promises.

The kit contains 10 parts, and it required quite a bit of sanding and filler to knock it into shape - big casting blocks where the arms join etc etc.

So, the face:

A very typical Reid face with lots of lines and angles and bags of character. Other peopled have left the cheeks shaved, but I found that there was a lot of texture there that looked like stubble, hence my interpretation of the beard. I've gone for another redhead, as the colour goes well with the yellowish skin tones.

Hi Peter

Nice to be catching up,on your benchtime , as you say a typical facial sculpt from Mr R and painted up nicely

Like your interpretation on the beard

Following with interest

Happy benchtime

Love the Iron Brigade Bust! You certainly have started off on a good foot as I like the contrast with the skin tones and hair. (y) Thanks for sharing your work!

Morning Peter

Another cracking start with your auburn warrior.

Looks like a blue day today, which will match the weather at -2 C

Enjoy the brighter palette and keep warm

Looks fantastic Peter. Lovely rendition of the fabrics as always, and the contrast with the beard is arresting.

Neil - Glad you like him so far. I just admit I'm having a ball with this lark at the moment.

Tim - I've since spent a couple of hours trying to refine the folds on the coat. Hopefully the red hair gives the thing more colour. Thanks for looking in.

Rick - That's pretty amazing. I'll try to honour his memory.
