I am not out for an argument or to upset people.
There was a resent session of spam and new moderators were brought on board, all justified.
But I do feel there is an element of policing that reminds me of school days, all moderators have a history and I am a bit peeved at being told what is or not correct when worse has been said in the past by such moderators who now act holier-than-thou
I do contribute to this forum, I have paid and will continue to.
I thought the new additions were to stop the crap from outside not to police ourselves.
I appreciate I may not be popular with this but I have seen so many threads closed recently and comments far from impartial by mods. Long standing members having banter and only since the new prefects have took charge policed like never before.
I do hope that in order to be a moderator it is a requisite you are a PF supporter, or does the status just give a free reign?

Gra you are welcome to the job anytime. I calls them like I sees them. There was a complaint I reacted to it. And I am anything but holy believe me. If you are unhappy, please contact the administrators. I will be more than happy to abide by their guidance. Nothing personal.

Colin

Colin, it has been ongoing for months. I never wanted it as I couldn't commit when the offer went out.
It was initially for spam blocking and the obvious outside abuse.
I was a little shocked at some of the names having been on the end of acid.
I just don't get how banter can be closed then next breath an opinion , rather abruptly is ok.
Like I said, prefects with a badge.
No offence to you personally, but if you have the title you are in the firing line same as the rest.

I'm not offended Grae. The site rules are no politics. Banter gets leeway. I got a complaint and it's hard to argue this wasn't politics. I suggest you email Pavel or Tommi and get their view. Cheers

Colin

I for one welcome the job that the moderators carry out.
My only concern here is that the thread was pulled as a reaction to one unspecified complaint.
Assuming that it related to the over politicizing of a topic then fair enough but I have to say I thought we were a long way from that. Still as Colin says sometimes you need to make a call as you see it.
Derek

That's ok mate and I appreciate your reply, as said it's not personal to you.
If I have a complaint the next time a mod goes hey wire I use the same process then :)
Cheers mate
As said, NOT personal to you

When I get a book of rules I will be better at wearing a striped shirt and blowing the whistle at the correct time (hockey analogy). It's pretty hard to just ignore a complaint that is technically valid. If it makes you feel better, I have had complaints that I wrote back to and said you are wrong or I disagree. Judgment and mood I guess :)

Colin

Colin, this one just tipped the scales, and I respect your judgement.
A post by a mod earlier COULD have relit the touch paper and was far from impartial that is my point. I was ready to reply but didn't as I didn't want it to turn into a locked thread. We all ride the waves and it was banter, then 1 report and closed. Only a few weeks ago an adult discussion was made about an IRA figure, there are many blokes that could have took offence, we didn't.
My point is, when is a moderator impartial, if not, don't be one
And as said, this has been going on for a while, I have never had to use ******* to get my point across.nor have you I appreciate

Sorry Gra.....I am confused. If you mean Mark, you should know he quit being a super mod and went back to being a jolly modeller quite a while ago. It's just Carl and I for the time being.

As I am half Scots And half English/Welsh, I figure I am going to lose on this issue no matter how it turns out in the end.

Colin

You will never lose mate as not out to fight a battle and not with you. I am confused to what we can and cannot say though, we thrive on banter and I am sure it would be openly said if we offended. Boundaries are unclear and yes, said may have gone, still got the political answer with extra though didn't he and a good post went hey wire

I meant I will lose on the independence thing....my attempt at levity. :) I will PM you more on rationale.

Colin

Colin, Thank you for the message. I appreciate your position for responding to me and respect your position as a mod which you made clear.
Best wishes and as said no offence meant to you personally
Thank you

Personally, I think any such matters in and for, the future could easily be resolved with the , 3 Strike's and out Rule, .. i.e.. 3 Red Flags !.. or, 3 cautions ! if things start going a bit 'Bonkers', so the participants of a thread can auto resolve it themselves. As most of us are adults, (Apart from Ritchie) as he's a Chimp !

Eg. Caution 1 = caution.gif.

Caution 2= red-warning-sign-1024x819.jpg

Final warning = redflagwarning.png .

Then close ! Clearly these signs should not be in your face, but you get what I mean.. Anyway its just a thought !

Regards,

Mark

Not for me.
Things work fine just the way they are. Everything is open to interpretation, if you want to contribute do it, if you don't want to don't.
If things get out of hand the Mods and Admin can pull the thread.
Derek

I am with Del on this we are all more or less adults* I don't think we have many pfoblems here TBH not when you see how many threads we have and how few are locked
Steve
* Apart from Brian who is 67 so really old

Del !.... My whole point being is that they will be rarely used, and rightly so. However, some notice of intent could quell and diffuse any escalation, (As Janne rightly says) 'The hot-headed', do require a poke!! ..or a swift kick in the pants, once in a while !.. ;) . view it as a, 'Moderators Tool'. ... and don't even think about a play on those last two words !!

Regards,

Mark

There is a need for consistency. I have no issues with the 3 strikes, or 2 strikes system but it needs to be applied consistently by staff. Also, it won't really work when a string is off side from first post. We all need to understand what is and is not off side and the simple term "political" may not be a specific enough criterion to apply. I will take it up with the admins.
