Well here he is. I say finished, I would like to maybe get a bit more sheen out of the gorget if I can, but other than that I am basically done. All in oils, of course. The roach is done with Woodland Scenics fall grass that I painted with red acrylic paint, then some diluted white glue. I cut the "clumps" off the longer strands and voila, instant roach! I did add a raw umber wash to the base and some highlights to the tips to give it some depth. A fun piece to do. I thought I might get this one knocked out in a jiffy just to add to my finished pieces. Two months later, here ya go! ;)

Any comment and critiques are more than welcome! BTW, Gary, how did I do on the gorget? Did I get the top parts correct?

Excellent work Jay. The highlighting you did on the flesh really paind off. The subtle tattoos are fantastic. I especially love the roach you made. Excellent photos too

Jay, What a super job. I like the way he turned out. The roach, neck knife, and tattoos look so right. One of the most rewarding things about sculpting is seeing how a painter interprets what you've sculpted. good going. (y)~Gary

Jay, Very NIce! The flesh tones, skin markings, roach and all are superb in my eye. Grandma always said "patience is a vitue, possess it if you can" and "practice, practice, practice makes perfect." Your patience definitely paid off.
Thanks for sharing

Nice work there Jay!

You sure have gotten a lot better since we first met in Tulsa a few years ago!

The tatoos are spot on man! Excellent work.

Only thing I would comment on is the eyes, it may be the picture but they seam a little unclear. Maybe go in and refine them a bit, it would be well worth it as the rest of the bust is excellent!

Whats next on the bench?

Anders,
thanks for the kudos! Next up is Latorre's pirate bust. Unless I get distracted and work on the Young Death Hussar bust, then there's also the Mig Viking bust, or the ....................................  I only have about 9 or 10 irons in the fire right now!
