Whether the accuracy of the cross may or may not be questionable, the technique certainly isn't. Like Patrick, I'd appreciate your mix on the shield wood, too.

Thanks. I will try to remember the way that I painted the wood grain. I can't remember the exact colors but will go back and look at my notes and let you know.

The weathering is done in acrylics. I painted the cloak the normal way and then I went back with the base color and added US Earth Tan (I think it is the name) I then just started adding small controlled washes. One thing that I did was to hold the figure upside down, this way the darkest amount is at the bottom and not the other way around. Once I had the figure finished I went back and very, very lightly airbrushed the US Earth color to the base and bottom of the figure. I hope this helps.

I used flat black and basic skin tone for the black. I made it a grayish color and then went up from there with the highs and then down until pure black for the shadows.
