Just one WIP shot to show you. Things seem to be working out. I'm not totally gaga on the result of the piping, but it's OK, I think. I finished the busby which was a blast - hats are fun to sculpt! And I finished the RAF service (flat) cap for Mr. Ball, Senior, 1948. And that also proved to be surprisingly easy. Junior is 16 years old in this picture and I've intentionally made him quite thin. Comments and critique always welcome!

Not bad at all Dan!! just the loops of lace on the cuffs, the the top of the shoulder and back; and he'll look nearly finished. Are you also making a sword/scabbard to go on the table with the busby - I can't remember!! (If not, don't worry about it - my ancient grey cells just ain't what they used to be!!!)

I'm really looking forward to painting these two. (y)

Daniel although not my subject it looks really nice. I cannot comment on accuracy from the history point of view e.g. hat, laces etc.

I think that the right leg is a bit on the thin side!!! It might be the photo thought.

Never the less a nice piece mate, keep us posted!!!!

Thanks Guys! Appreciate your comments!

Dave - There is still a lot more curlicues than you'd believe! This is by far the most ornate and complicated uniform I've ever done. Fun!

Periklis - both legs are about the same thickness, etc. What you're seeing is skinny legs and tight trousers. The KTRHA wear about the tightest trousers I've ever seen in a military uniform. If anything, I didn't get the trousers tight enough!

Dan, While Mr. Ball's legs are thin his right thigh could use a little more "meat". From the angle of the photo it looks a bit crushed.~Gary

I got out the mm ruler and checked and darned if you guys aren't right. The side view thicknesses of each thigh at the same point on each leg are 9 mm. But from the front and back at the same point the thighs are 1 mm difference in thickness. The inner back part of the right thigh needs a sliver more putty. More pics later.

Gary and Periklis - You guys have good eyes! ;)

ps - My piping isn't turning out as lovely and neat as Maurizio's but this is the first time I've done anything like it. I thought it would be tedious and dull but it's actually kinda fun! The combination of wire loops and putty piping seems to work if you can get them blended together well enough.

All the best,
Dan

Dan,

Those are some seriously tight pants. These guys actually rode horses? Makes me crinch just thinking about it....

Are you going to add some spurs? Keep those pics coming!

Marvin and Vergilius - To the best of my understanding, the Kings Troop RHA still exists and still wears exactly the uniform you see. And, yup, the pants are pretty tight. Since I posted these photos, I've added some of the complicated piping, etc. It certainly isn't turning out to the same standard as Maurizio is able to achieve, but that was never my objective anyway and this isn't a competition, etc. Just my humble opinion, mind you, but doing the piping is an unmitigated pain in the @#$. A real challenge, but not much real fun. But I'm pressin' on. Yeah, I know, yes I would like some cheese, thanks!

All the best,
Dan
