Hifriends! Today I’m happy to show you my new creature “Murmillo” (master model, the scale of 54 mm, produced by "Tartar Miniatures").
Working on this figurine I've adhered to the historical truth. The only known to archaeologists cemetery of gladiators, where the remains of 70 people were found, is in the ancient city of Ephesus and it was open by Austrian scientists. Based on the structure of the bone, it was enough easy to establish the proportions between the component of their nutrition from which it follows that they ate barley cakes and olive oil. Historians believe that the vegetarian diet not only made gladiators stronger but a layer of fat served them as additional armour, protecting vital organs from the cold steel. In addition, the density of gladiators' bones was much greater than that of the average person who ate meat. 1,3 kg of bread or figs were given to gladiators a daily, and 262 litres of wine per year; and the bulbs of plant were certainly presented in the diet, turnip, legumes and fresh seasonal vegetables.
The look of my work is obliged to all this facts.
These pictures illustrate the various stages of work at the figurine.
Thank you all for your attention.
Artem

I hope you don't mind me pointing this out but the maniac is wrong. The lames overlap upwards and not down. If a sword were to run on the arm it would catch and cut into the limb. This is a common mistake. All manica finds have the lanes running upwards. Artistic representations may differ but you have to rely on the archaeology and reconstructions. I've made about 30 of these full sized, based on the Carlisle finds.

Apart from that your figure is brilliant.
