Hi to one and all ,

Its a real pleasure to be able to review this from the Russian company

MURSI
AAAAAAAAA.jpg
This is the first bust release from Altores Studio and its certainly not what I expected , again they have chosen something I certainly have not seen before ......they are to be applauded for this .
The subject is a modern day warrior from Africa , a member of the Mursi tribe , living in a beautiful valley called the Omo in southern Ethiopia, they are an amazing people.
1. The Mursi tribe are one of the last remaining tribes in Africa to still wear traditional dress and accessories.
2. The women are famous for their unique headdresses.

3. The Mursi women also wear clay or wooden plates in their lower lips or earlobes. These are to mark traditional rites of passages including those for educational and disciplinary purposes. They start wearing them when they are around 15 to 16 years old.

4. A popular activity with men is the stick fighting ceremony, which is a form of ritualised violence., now also automatic weapons are often seen , prized by all .

5. The Mursi tribe maintain an ancient way of bartering and sharing goods with other tribe members.
6. Scarification of the body is practised by both male and female members with some incredible results

7. They also have an fabulous array of ear decoration as well including animal tusks

7. The Mursi is a Nilo-Saharan language. It is similar to Suri, spoken in most of the immediately surrounding area.

I admit based on previous figure releases I had high hopes for the bust , the shipping was fast and efficient , parts in plastic bags in a good box , a picture on the top of the made up resin , no box art was available at the time.
Altores Mursi 001.jpg
Parts include, torso, the right arm , AK47 weapon, the remaining parts being the head decoration and the headband end, no base .

Prep
Torso...Remove casting plug from lower edge and former from left arm
Arm...Small piece from top and fit to torso
Weapon..Remove from former and fit to arm ( hand included on weapon)
Remainder of pieces ....Take off formers and fit
Note: The end of the weapon was warped on the review piece , this was easily sorted by carefully dipping in hot water and straightening it ...a suggestion might be for this to be put onto a cardboard backing as well.

Lets look at the resin:

Torso

This is a very muscular torso , the muscle tones are well defined , the resin is very smooth indeed with no blemishes or pin holes whatsoever, the head is turned to the left , mouth shut tight. looking to the distance . this position makes full use of showing off the head decoration to its best effect.

The head is a very very good sculpt , capturing the features well , cut outs are provided for all the decoration , dry fitting showed no need for any filler , facial features are great particularly the nasal area , hair is short and with really good texture , strong neck muscles are evident
Altores Mursi 013.jpgAltores Mursi 015.jpg
Around his neck there is a beaded necklace , these are well formed and all virtually the same size!!

The right side holds the weapon at the high port position when the arm is in place.

Scarification is on the chest and the arms , nicely represented .

On the back which most company's leave empty we have a really nice addition of a map of Africa and a star where the Mursi are to be found.

Arm

As with the torso the muscles are well worked , veins showing the arm bent holding the weapon when in place . Fit to the torso is good , just a tiny bit of filler might be needed .
Scarification are also on the upper arm with a wrist strapping , good folds on this.

Weapon

Obviously an AK 47 , held high and proud by the warrior...no one is going to mess with him !!! the details on the weapon itself are very good indeed with all the working parts that are seen being sharply done , particularly liked the folded down sight .
The weapon was warped at the top but this could be easily sorted as in first part of review.
Altores Mursi 021.jpg
The hand is sculpted holding the handgrip , forefinger outright, the hand is showing some really good features the veins and the fingers are very well done

The Head decoration

These pieces are very cleverley done , the rings have a tiny bit of plastic to remove with a craft knife and then fit into place , the tusks are well textured and a really good shape
.

The headband end seen here on the right has a nice look to it, showing movement and easy to fit to the cutout in the back of the head.

The necklace and ear hangings have some intricate beadwork .

My suggestion is to carefully plan how you are going to paint these , on or off the bust

When all is in place ..the result is very impressive indeed

Final Thoughts

This is a really fine introduction to a bust range from Altores , a very unusual subject choice and is well sculpted ,full of QUALITY , a really good casting well thought out as well , I am pleased to be able to share this review, a great start , looking forward to seeing more from them.
