Hi All,
I found this delightful little flat on ebay, I was actually giving Roger the heads up on some figures and this medallion was one of them. I thought what the hell.
This is probably one of my favourite painting ever by Johannes Vermeer and originally painted in 1665.
The original in my opinion is one of the worlds greatest ever paintings and has some affection in my family as my Dad painted a version in 1979 in oils and I painted a version in watercolours in about 1990.

Not much to show, I have quickly lashed on some colour and the detail and skill of the relief sculptor is superb, if I can paint this as well as my watercolour I will be more than happy. So here we jump in with both feet.
Roger please be on standby.:)(y)
cheers
Richie

Good luck with this mate. It looks incredibly difficult to paint. Got to say this - your Dads an awesome painter!!

Hi Colin/Nap
Thanks, sorry no assegai's, I'm looking forward to having a go at this. I blame that bloody Roger he's got us all at it!

Hi Blind Pew,
Thanks and I am really looking forward to having a go at this, by your avatar I hope you will call back in later.

Hi Jazz,
How are you mate and thanks. I agree the old man has been my biggest inspiration and although I am biased he is a superb painter. The painting is with one of my sisters and and looks loads better in the flesh, that photo has a lot of awful light bounce back. Here is an uncropped one of my Dad's
cheers

Hi Jazz, Carl, Joe, Keith, Blind Pew and Mark,
Thank you for the very nice comments not only from me but also my Dad, on Friday I passed on your comments. He was quite elated that you all liked his painting and it gave him a nice lift as he is not in the best of health at the moment, so thanks again(y).

A small update I've blocked in a few more colours and it has already started to lift the piece although there is still a way to go, but I am enjoying it.
cheers

I agree with everyone else Richie, it's looking great already. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I have never had the nerve to paint a flat so lots of respect to you. Glad your dad liked the comments. He deserved them. A talented painter indeed.
