This guy started out as a 3rd figure to go with the Jeff Shui Guadacanal pair of Marines, but I decided that the "skeleton" I made was too small, so it got set to the side. After a while, I decided to do a Colonial Soldier. At this point, it was a armature with a left hand, 2 feet and a head. So I sculpted some pants on him, lost the mojo, and again, set it off to the side. There it remained for some time, probably a year, until the recent announcement of the Colonial soldier at Trenton sculpted by John Rosengrant, which inspired me to revisit this guy. I decided he would be a soldier at Trenton as well, so ragged and cold were the key things I kept in mind. I started by wrapping his head in a scarf, giving him a hat and collar. An odd way to start, but that's what I was most interested in doing which would help me keep the mojo going. So I successfully sculpted those, then decided to move on, to, of course, the footwear. Then the right arm, then the left. I did the main part of the coat last, then the straps, canteen, powder horn and cartridge bag. The head is an old Kirin head, the hands and musket came from the parts box, but I ended up resculpting 5 of the fingers and adding fingerless gloves, copper wire and styrene were used for the bayonet and socket mount. I originally planned to wrap both feet, but I liked the look of one wrapped and one with gaiters. Many of these guys were literally barefoot and leaving blood trails, so this guy would be one of the better off ones. All putty work done with Magic Sculpt. I have modded and converted many figures over the years, added legs to busts, replaced arms, etc, but this is my first, from the top down sculpt. Maybe one day I will master head sculpts, but until then, I continue to deplete my shrinking supply of 120mm heads. Hope you like it

Bravo! Very tough to believe it’s your first full figure. It looks fantastic. Are there more to follow? Will we be seeing this fella’ painted? I envy your stick-to-it-ive-ness…lol
Again, congrats and excellent work!

Amazing work. I've always admired (and been a tad envious of) guys who don't just paint but can sculpt as well. I wouldn't know where to start with that.

Nah, I'll be happy just to get some paint slapped on him. I thought about adding a brass Hessian mitre cap on the ground, but after seeing the complexity of the crest design, decided I could forego it!

Very nice indeed, it’s good to think that john’s Trenton sculpt inspired you to do this. It’s good work for your first full figure well done. Looking forward to seeing what you do paint wise.
