Hi All

Just completed my first proper figure, I have done a couple of figures that came with my model tanks but they where 1/35th scale so not much I could do with them.

This was my first stand alone figure, its one of the Tamiya 1/16th range so still not much good but a lot better than their 1/35th range.

Its been painted in a mix of Humbrol Enamels and Vallejo Acrylics, the face was just acrylics, I have got some oils to try on the next on though.

Any tips on making the next one better

I know its nowhere near the standard of the rest of you on here so no laughing, afterall everyone has to begin somewhere.

Paul

This is nicely undercoated, which is just blocking in the basic colors. Check out the sbs offerings concerning highlight and shadow to get an idea of where to go next. The eyes are pretty good. The highlights and shadows will bring it to life. You have a leg up in that your work is technically pretty good--everything is neat and the colors are confined to where they are supposed to go. That may sound simple but not everyone can manage it when starting out. In addition especially when working with styrene figures, hollowing out the cuffs of the coat and drilling out the muzzle of the MG add detail at little cost in effort. Highlight and shadow to the degree necessary to bring the figure to life can be a challenge as often they will seem too exaggerated but overemphasis and exaggeration are the key to bringing your figure to life.--

Very nice start.
Now up to the shading and highlighting.....you gotta do that on this figure, it seems all flat, no depth. As William said, it is just a basecoat.

It is great for the first figure, very neat. Just keep it like that. The eyes are good as well, not that easy for a beginner.
For the next ones try some of the suggestions of Steve, like drilling out the muzzle, starting with color gradients. While you are getting more practice and better along with it, you got something to compare your new figures against.

Thanks for all the comments guys, and all taken on boared for the next one.

Believe it or not I did actualy do quite a bit of shading, but I did it with my airbrush, I dont know what happened but after it had dried and the flat coat had been applied it all dissapered, I think I must do it darker next time or stick to brush painting.

I have another 3 of this range to paint so hope I get better results with them.
