This bust of Dorrin the Dwarf gave me the opportunity to try some techniques I had never before attempted. I set out to simply copy one of the samples sculptor/artist Lukas Zaba had done and to imitate his style. In the end, I had my own ideas about balance between the colors used in the upper and lower parts of the bust. I really enjoyed painting this one.

Really like this and I'm curious about the texture you got on the helmet and tunic, he looks great, bet the beard was a pain though.

Cheers Simon

Thank you very much, Simon.

On the helmet and tunic I did multiple layers of stippling, mostly applying one dot at a time. On the helmet, I alternated between layers of stippling and diluted dark washes.

To be perfectly honest about the beard, that was the last bit I painted on this bust. I was growing antsy to finish, so I admittedly rushed it more than I ideally should have.

Again, I appreciate your comments.

Thanks for that, almost sculpting with paint. I know what you mean about the last bits on a figure, always keen to start the next project, something I do all the time, for me though the worst bit is mounting the figure on the base, no matter how much I prep for it I always fudge it and knock paint off or get glue everywhere it shouldn't be!

I know what you mean. I did a couple of OK bases years ago, but since coming back to the hobby early this year, I haven't been satisfied with any of my efforts in that department. Bases require a slightly different skill set, don't you agree?

Oh yes I agree with that, as an armor modeller I presented everything on a diorama, so I'm not bad at making bases, just can't be bothered with all the ground work these days. It's joining subject to base that I have always had issues with. But the ground work like anything is practice, but if you're like me, when the desire to do it isn't there it's pretty much impossible to make anything convincing.

I totally agree, Simon. Best regards.
