Hello guys,

another one from a month ago: the S&T tanker sculpted by Bill. I switched the head for a hornet one, and changed the pose slightly.

Comments and criticism are of course welcome.!

The photo was taken on a competition table with terrible lighting, with flash and loosely out of the hand, so sorry fo the bad photo-quality and the fact that it is slightly small.
Hope you enjoy though!

Marijn

That man's gonna need a chiropractor! Very well painted colours and textures - including the cupola.

Cheers

Colin

Thanks for the nice words!

As I originate from AFV-modelling, painting the cupola was no problem! For you figure-buffs: armour modeling has opened to many new ways of artistic expression and creativity the last couple of years. The time of of assembling a kit and spraying a coat of paint over it is definetely over!

The skintones are Humbroll.

The base consists of flesh 61, natural wood 110, leather 62 and whine 73, varying the mix from figure to figure for the complexion I want. Importantly, to this some black 33 is mixed to tone the basecolour down.
Highlighting is done with the same colours, but omitting the back and wine, and gradually also the natural wood, while adding white.
I do the shading with very diluted paint, layering gradually, almost like the acrylic painting techique. The mix is wine, natural wood and black, gradually dropping the natural wood and adding black.

Straith wine or wine with some flesh is used to get some extra colour on cheecks, nose, earlobes, ... and beardshadow is done with a dark grey mix of black and flesh.

Highlighted areas are covered with satin varnish after drying.

Best wishes,

Marijn

Marijin,

I really like the the whole set up. I really like your armor and I think we are all going to be able to sit back and enjoy your figure adventures. They are as nice as your armor. Looking forward to seeing more of your figures.

Marijn,

Very Cool! The best version of that figure that I have seen painted. Well done!

Bill

Thanks for the nice words! I hope to get some better pictures in some weeks time, to show you the detail and especially the expression in the eyes better. This one really is too small...

Anders, maybe you should... I used to paint my faces in oils, and the switch to Humbrolls made a huge difference for me.

Best wishes,

Marijn

Hi Marijn!
I found this pic on polish forum

photo was made by Slawek - polish modeller...
Beautiful figure!!!

Hi Marijin,
Great paint job, I shall try to approximate the skin tone colours in acrylics
as I have never had much success with Humbrols.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Happy Xmas

Now Marijn, next time try painting this guy in a scarlet jacket with a diced band on his cap ... you know ... Victorian him up!

Bill

Beautiful work Marijn!

The face is amazing. Did you use the same shade of white for the light reflection in the eyes as you did for the white part of them. I hope you understand what i mean :)

It is nice to see someone, besides Bill, get such results using the Humbrols. I have given up on them ten years ago not being aware of their potential.

I hope to see many more beautiful figures from you.

Marry christmas,

Luka

Thanks for the nice words guys!

Luka, there are more people getting the best out of these little tins, Mike Blank and Adrian Bay just to name two. Mostly they don't confine themselves to Humbroll though, and İ also plan to use more oils or acrylics for certain tascs in the future.

The white in the eyes is white 34 with some natural wood 110, while the "sparkle" in the eye is white 34 with some prussian (?) blue 104, so they are different.
İt just shows a little in Marcins' foto.

Marcin, thanks for that shot! The flash unfortunately sucked all of the contrast out of it, but it shows the detail much better. Any idea where it was taken? İ believe İ only took it to two Belgian shows yet...

And Bill, don't worry, İ already have a nice WW1 figure on order that İ am planning to "deface"!
First some more "serious" projects though.

Best wishes to all!

Marijn

Hi Marijn
Great to see you here!
Love that figure.
Will you be at Torrent this year(well...next year)?
regards
jaume

Thanks Marcin!

the figure was in Lier indeed.

Hello Jaume! İ hope to go to Torrent again. The organisers told me that İ have to come for judging this year, but İ should urgently need a conformition of this, so İ can make arrangements. İt would be great to meet there again, so we can talk a little more than in Folkestone.

Bye!

Marijn
