Hey, thanks again folks for the kind comments - much appreciated.

Steve - thanks for the compliment, but I haven't really been on that much of a roll - this vignette and the US Marines one from a couple weeks ago were finished about a year ago. They were to be for a book project that never quite got off the ground and so I figured I'd "self-publish" them now.

Colin S.: Thanks for offering to bring your war artist book to the SWOFP meeting - looking forward to it (and I'll bring this vignette along for show 'n tell)
I'm with you on the preference for Comfort's and Harris' work, especially Harris' - there's a very surreal, almost Dali-esque feel to his stuff that really grabs me - wonder if it could be translated to a 3-D reproduction? Hmm...I feel another vignette coming on...

Cheers,

Brian

Thanks Huw,

The trousers were a custom-mixed olive/khaki from Lamp Black + Yellow Ochre (W&N oils), shadows had Raw Umber added (and straight Lamp Black in a few spots), highlights were the base khaki lightened with a bit of White and Naples Yellow.

The BD blouse's khaki was mixed from Burnt Umber + Yellow Ochre + a bit of Black, if memory serves - shadows and highlights same as the trousers. I wanted to keep trousers and blouse from looking too similar/monotonous.

Thanks again for looking in!

Brian

Hello Brian

Thank you very much. That's really very useful information to me as I've some khaki clad fellows to paint up soon and I want to ensure I make a reasonable job of it.

Cheers

Huw
