Dear Frank

This is coming along very nicely indeed. I really like the well balanced flesh tones and I see you made progress on his coat. It may help but have a look at different versions of this painting if you look it up on Google images. I don't want to cloud the issue but seeing slightly different pictures may help it turn out to be a better flat. This is because it may help you to see how the same image can appear when slightly lighter or darker, etc. This way you can choose what you think would work best.

I hope I haven't over complicated things. I'll shut up now, as you seem to be doing a good enough job without me. Best of luck with it!

Hi thanks for the comments

Anthony....... The coat is being a bit of a pain have seen it portrayed
as a sort of violet grey... which is darker .... and an effect I like though have not been able to get it ..yet...
will post again when made more progress

It appears you are doing a very job on this unusual looking flat.
Looking forward to seeing more and thanks for sharing.

Cheers
Roc.

Thanks for your comment Roc

This flat is a bit different as unlike most it can not be slotted into a piece of card...Its made to look like a medallion...for painting i have it blu-tacked
to a piece of plastic rod .... a bit like a lollipop

I picked it up in Kulmbach Germany ....its designed and put out by a Russian editor
Valadimir Nuztin who has a lot of great pieces in his range

Not the greatest image, but this is the Delaroche. I have seen one of the few remaining riding coats worn by the Emporer in a museum display. Battleship gray would describe it best. Under the display lights, it did not look quite as dark as in the Delaroche.
