Hi Neal

That horse is coming on rather nicely ...you adding those hairs ?

Good basecoating on the rest, have you decided what facings to use ?

Thanks Borek, glad you like how things are progressing. I think that it’s one of the great things about the forum that there’s always someone willing to help with info or advice.

Slow progress recently but managed a bit more on this project. The main coat colour has been painted in oils, I’ve opted for the post 1809 dark green and I’ve started blocking in the facing colours. I’ve opted to represent a trooper of the 6th Chevaulegers Regt Bubenhofen with black facings piped red. The helmet has now been painted in oils and the brass work started. Ive also handed the oils to the schabraque edging/diamonds. The tunic colour is still a little shiny at present but hopefully it will dull down as it dries. If not I may have to revisit this bit. Fortunately I was able to pick up a book from one of the traders at the IPMS Bolton show yesterday covering the Bavarian Army 1806-1813 so I’ll add some references from this covering the Chevaulegers.

Thanks Kev. I picked it up from the Bookworld stand. Email address is www.bookworldws.co.uk. I picked up one on the Saxon Army from the same period, same authors,as well. Plenty of info, colour plates and paintings by Patrice Courcelle.

That's cracking work Neal.....love it.....(y).....Mike
Thanks Mike, really appreciated. I’m just in the process of adding some thin wire to the turnbacks as the kit only has piping to the turnbacks on the inner edge. My reference material suggests there was a 2cm wide L shaped strip in the facing colour on the turnbacks so hoping this will replicate it. I didn’t fancy removing the sculpted crown/horse head so the “lace”might look a little wider at this point but I’m happy to live with that as my sculpting/scratch building skills aren’t up to much. I’ve added a photo which may make more sense of it.

Moved a little further on with this now. Rider attached to the horse as I was running out of unpainted parts to hold onto him. Coat tail additions basecoated and now painted in oils. Going to tidy up and highlight the piping and then sort the crown and horse badges. Gauntlets and sabre still to do then addition of reins, bit, and water gourd and I should be nearly finished. Now the two pieces are married together it’s a really hefty piece and I’m hoping the metal rod I’ve used holds up to the job!

Hi Neal

That does look a large piece now together , obviously the oils are still drying

I would push the highs a bit more on the green and line in the white edging ....perhaps shadow the white a bit , looks very bright ....

Only my thoughts mate you have it there !

Happy benchtime

PS I see Bonapartes also have a mounted Samurai and a knight !

Hi Nap, thanks for that. I started having another go at the highs again last night but still plenty to go. I’ll have another look at the White,as you say it could maybe do with being taken a touch further but I wanted to try and portray a different white to that on the cross belts and what I will use on the gauntlets. To be honest I don’t think the pictures or lighting were the best. The green is certainly,in my experience, a slow burner when it comes to matting down. I’ve used an old Phil Kessling mix for it from a Mil Mod article so may have to look at reviewing this.
