Hello,

I am trying to depict a drummer from the British 73rd foot - at the battle of Waterloo.

Can anyone tell me what the color of the drum should be? Is it green, to go with the facings of the cuffs and collars?

Also - I have found at this time that the drummer wore a standard red jacket - not the reverse green and red. Does this sound correct to you?

Many thanks!

Hi Jon,

To quote a copy the 1802 regulations, para 4;

The drums to be of wood. The front painted with the colour of the facing of the regiment with the King's cypher and crown and the number of the regiment under it.

I can't say for definite whether this was altered in the 1812 regs.

The jacket as you have stated would have been red, as the rank and file with the addition of the drummers lace. This was changed in the 1812 regs.

The 73rd were also de-kilted in 1809.

Hope this helps

Melanie
