Need advice on holding figures !

Just remembered something. If you want a round grip rather than square you can get a cheap, wooden, rolling pin and cut it to the size you find comfortable to hold. Can even make plinths that way too. Just don't forget that they're usually hardwood so can take some time to cut and sand with hand tools.

My wife seems to enjoy the fact that rolling pins are made of hardwood.
 
I use whiskey bottle corks. The are nice to hold, and stable to put down.
