Need advice on holding figures !

Just remembered something. If you want a round grip rather than square you can get a cheap, wooden, rolling pin and cut it to the size you find comfortable to hold. Can even make plinths that way too. Just don't forget that they're usually hardwood so can take some time to cut and sand with hand tools.

That's okay for 25-30mm figures but not 75-120mm metal or resin figures.

And glued to a simple wood blog is what I do since 50 years even for 75mm metal and 120mm resin

My wife seems to enjoy the fact that rolling pins are made of hardwood.

I use whiskey bottle corks. The are nice to hold, and stable to put down.
